ESPN GameDay crew weighs in on Clemson-FSU |
ESPN's College GameDay crew is all over the board on if Florida State can give the No. 4 Tigers a game come 3:30 p.m. this afternoon (ESPN).
Kirk Herbstreit says beware a team that's heard they can't win all week. "I'm careful personally just because of the recruiting and the roster of players. I would say that any time you take a team like Florida State and say, 'No shot,'" Herbstreit said, "what those players have heard all week. You're going to pull out the pride in them. I wouldn't be shocked at all if this game is competitive and at some point there is a breaking point of emotion. "Clemson's defensive line is way too good for the Florida State offensive line and the all the built-up emotion will go tumbling down and it will feel like an avalanche. I think it could be competitive." Desmond Howard concurs with what the Seminoles have heard. "No shot," Howard said of the 16-point underdog's chances in Death Valley. David Pollack is more in the middle, saying it's a game where Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant has something to prove. "Defensively they still have dudes at Florida State," Pollack said. "Here's what I'll say, Kelly Bryant isn't going to just line up and smash Florida State. That's not going to happen. He hasn't proven he can consistently beat you with his arm. I think this could be a pretty close game." But asked by Howard if it will be closer than a double-digit game, Pollack wasn't so confident. "Less than 16," Pollack said with a laugh.
