What is the ACC doing?

Why does it make sense to add SMU, Stanford or Cal? Seriously there are 10 ACC president's that would vote yes on this right now. 3 teams that were hypothetically rejected by the big ten and the big 12. 3 teams that barely draw 1 million viewers per football game.... why is this actually on the table? Regardless of what FSUs, UNC and Clemson's long term intentions are, they do feel like the only sane ones in the room.
I would make the argument that UCONN is a way better choice then these 3... they have a larger alumni base, similar academic accolades and similar recent lack of football success ... but UCONN has one thing the those others dont have: location, location, location.
So what is the real logical next step...the ACC messed up, we get it. They stayed status quo when others were making moves. They chained themselves to a crap deal on a dying network. And the have had lousy leadership....
Clemson can either stay and help the conference innovate or we jump ship...
I think its better for college football to have more conferences personally but the only way the ACC survives is thru some serious out of the box thinking. So what does that look like....
Option 1: You take national brands, with strong academics and bad football teams and build them up with cash injections that are to be used specifically on their football programs... IE Army, Navy, UCONN
Option 2: you cater to the next generation of viewers of cord cutters and partner with Amazon or apple or some streamer... i mean we are going there in the next 10 years anyway... we could early adopters this time
Option 3: we go international. Bring in oxford, cambridge, Manchester etc. The NFL is going that way eventually... we innovate with them. American football is getting bigger in Europe evey yr.
Now, i know you will but poke holes in all these ideas and tell me every reason why they are stupid, but are any of these really worse then adding 2 irrelevant west coast teams and one religious texas school?

I think most of us are too tired to poke any more holes in any of this. Just ready for it to be over and move on...

the Clemson announces a departure from the ACC today by noon than there is Clemson remaining in the ACC past next season. PERIOD!!! Clemson will not play an ACC football schedule in a minimum of 3 years. Bet the house on it!! The GOR WILL NOT be something that keeps Clemson from leaving the conference. Just wait and see!

I’d put good $$$ on the fact that you’re smarter than most of these institutionalized bureaucrats running these Universities right now.
I also bet if you were in charge 15 years ago, we would t be in the place were in. That probably goes for a good portion of the folks on this site.
A bad set of options all the way around….I hate it but, I still think the B1G is our best option moving forward.

Or, you can just go Div III and be content to play....

... Winsconsin Whitewater and Holy Cross in the playoffs every year.
Save a lot of money that way.
(Sorry, not trying to be snide, but when I reread what I typed it came across that way.)
All the suggestions you listed take money. And, none of those suggestions bring in enough money to implement them.

I don't want to play Whitewater; they've won 6 National Championships...

You know how they say a drowning man will grab anything to stay afloat?
This is the conference version of that.

I applaud your outside the box approach...but yes, I do have to nit pick it.
1) UCONN does make more sense...but only in the argument that a band-aid will heal a gunshot wound. Adding another basketball centric school in a conference already flush with them seems like we wouod just be repeating the problem that put us here in the first place.
2)service academies: amazing institutions but absolutely no value added. Their purpose first and foremost is creating officers for the military. Most quality athletes dont consider the academies due to the rigorous nature of attendance and the requirement for military service upon graduation. Add in the ridiculously small alumni base and you essentially end up with another wake forest in the conference. Most academy alumni I work with dont even follow their football teams due to lack of interest.
3) Streaming: if im not mistaken Apple offered to a media deal to the PAC 12. It didnt come close to matching BIG/SEC money. This option may be several years to a decade away to panning out. By that point we may be too far behind to ever catch up.
4) overseas additions: I've spent a small amount of time in Europe. Over there Soccer is king. Watching them take in soccer is the equivalent of Americans watching the Super Bowl. Football will always be a second tier event. We have enough schools where football is second tier already.
I like your outside the box attitude. Im just hoping someone with the same spirit is applying it towards Clemson exiting the ACC.
