Of course, there were only 10 boats. Remember that green light we was trying to install at diddy's?
The very last cast, pulled this girl off of it at 10:19. She was 6.3 lbs.
Turnt out we would have had 2nd place even if I didn't catch her. Tough night for fishing.

This is prob the biggest largemouth I ever caught. Was 2016 at my parents pond that we stocked w Florida strain: I didn’t have a scale and put her back.
We used to fish the canals in south Florida where the government had set up missile sites in the Everglades during Cuban missile crisis. That was fun.

but I guess those ditch pickles are all mouth and gut...
Texas rigged or caroliner rigged?
Hook size? One hook? It almost seems like it would warrant a double hook it's so freaking big, or do they usually strike at the head?
inquiring minds want to know

So, in the summer time, them biguns like a big ol worm. There are 100 other things that work also, but this is a staple.
I texas rig it on 17 lb line....1/4 oz bullet weight, orange bead, 4/0 gamakatsu worm hook.
Normally, they just inhale the whole thing. You feel a THUMP, and steady pressure on the line.
I have caught some good ones in daylight on a lighter color, but for night I usually go black.

1 black Red 10" ol' monsters 1 green pump-kin green Mag II 9" (because they didn't have any lighter colored ol' monsters.... they only seem to come in dark colors (lulz)
already had some 4/0 Gomatsu EWG worm hooks, 1/4oz bullet weights and beads.
if only my trolling motor didn't go out on me (within the 60 day BPS return window)... It's a Motorguide Xi3. I think the control board is shot. As soon as you would put power to it, it would spin the motor at full speed and roll smoke out of the control board. Motorguide wanted me to drive it to Orangeburg and let it sit at a shop with a 10 week backlog to be inspected... BPS said, "send it back and we'll send you a new one."

SO if I can give you any advice.....This is slow fishing. Like you have to fish it slowly and in the right place. In the daytime, this is going in a brush pile in 15 ft of water. At night time, I caught my big one off the green light. You just have to keep on keeping on before you finally get rewarded.
Also, when I'm fishing brushpiles.....these are proven brushpiles. I have experience catching fish on them. I use my livescope to make sure I'm casting in the right place. Then, you feel the brush to know you are in the right place.
I'm just saying it isn't easy and has taken me a long time to where I can catch em.
If you want to catch big fish easily, then you need a good pond or a lighted dock or a kayak and hit the saluda river with a buzzbait.
Sorry about your trolling motor. Summer is the worst time to remove and install a trolling motor.

stripers around.
Which, at current condition, puts them around the ### in 50-100 feet on humps off of the main channel. When the Trolling Motor failed, I had to resort to throwing anchor (splicing together every fish stringer, rope, and shiiz I could find to get to it long enought (twss). That got old quick. Spot-lock is CRUCIAL.
If I'm short on time, or I'm just dinking around my dad's dock, I'll fish for green fish.... or if I want a change of pace.
Live scope sounds awesome.... without that, I'm either sight fishing in the shallows, throwing ned-rigs and jigs around docks, or throwing whatever quickish moving bait along the shoreline trying to generate a bite. If I see some good logs or brush, I'll slow down and throw some plastics.
I'm also not a good fisherman at all.... definitely not tournament caliber... I have some decent gear though
