Will the stimulus work?

Apr 5, 2020, 7:27 AM

TL;DR

Too little, too late. The economy is dead, and we are screwed.

I think the stimulus is just a bandaid on a severe laceration.

Applied after we bled out.

Seriously, up to 20 weeks for stimulus checks.

SBA loans that are likely weeks out.

SBA normally does $30B in loans ALL YEAR. The want them to process $350B in a week or two.

Fuggin idiots.

After those weeks of wild market swings Wall Street has

already gotten their bailout.

Should be trickling down soon.

It was dumb really. Stimulate what?

It should have been more in temporary direct payments to people who lose jobs. The time for a stimulus is when we're working again and there will be something to stimulate.

As it stands companies not working are being stimulated and so are those who are. What good are low rates if a company can't work? What good are they for one deemed essential and still working and doesn't need it?

The crisis we have is a crisis of companies that only exist because of cheap debt. Those who run on margins so thin that they can only profit with cheap debt. 5% rates or more and they'd fold. That's a lot of companies. Add to that a lack of savings and planning for companies as well as employees.

And what good is unemoyment if there are no jobs to look for. Another thing different here.

Could you imagine if the government, people, and companies actually operated as we all used to? No debt or very little. And 6 months of savings at least. Imagine no budget deficit and the government having 2 to 3 trillion extra saved for a crisis like this. Same for companies and people. We would have so much more potential to respond.
