We don't have the fan base. We don't have the nationwide support as ND does.

What we do have in recent years is a history of National Dominance. Which means that any team we play anywhere in the nation is going to draw massive attention. It will generate hype and we can schedule whomever we want to play. Another aspect that Clemson has going for them is the vast number of alumni that are raised in generational wealth. I don't know of too many Clemson grads living in abject poverty. Maybe Clemson should redesign IPTAY and market IPTAY to major corporations for sponsorship and allow their donations to be tax deductible. Then revenue isn't so much of an issue and the focus can be solely upon academics and athletics while maintaining our culture.

You’re delusional. Going independent is not going to get us even ACC money.

You seem to confuse the words dominance and relevance. Bama was dominant for awhile and we were relevant. There is a reason that no school in the last 40 years has been able to go it alone except ND. We don’t have millions of Catholics who consider Clemson their team even though most have never set foot on campus

ND is independent in football only

If we tell the ACC to pound sand and have no landing place, who is going to administer and schedule sports other than football?

I was at a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Broomfield Colorado last year and curious to see what team gear they carried, they had the obvious CU Buffs, Broncos, some Air Force, some Colorado State, some Nebraska and.... Notre Dame. Nothing from Clemson anywhere. I think this is a good gauge on where Clemson stands in relevance.
Then the other challenge in being an independent is that while all these other 16-20 team conferences are all playing 9 game conference schedules, it would be nearly impossible to find someone available to play during the middle of the year.

U.S. Catholic High schools: 1,205 schools educating 569,395 students. 6,429 total Catholic (elementary/middle and high) schools in the United States.
My UGA alum wife is Catholic. And to the point, many Catholic high schools (and many private schools) recruit stellar players. They also point to Notre Dame as the gold standard for academic and athletic pursuits. Good luck copying that model.

Another problem would be the non football sports. The ACC will not allow Clemson to compete in these sports like they do ND. It would be very difficult finding teams to play if Clemson was totally independent.

The Clemson model has NOT been the type to produce this kind of alumni base over its history.

Recent success doesn't equate to a long-standing established national brand. We'd need decades of success and a universal allure (such as the Catholic religion) to build anything even close to Notre Dame. Clemson's student base has grown significantly in recent years, as has the national brand, but not anywhere near necessary to be independent.
I'd argue probably only 4 schools in the nation could succeed on their own: Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Texas, Ohio State.
