We discussed the new 4Runner yet?

Best looking one in 25 years since the 3rd gen, IMHO.

I could see one of these in the driveway if it doesn’t have the “azzz on the floor, legs straight out” seating position.

Saw a little on these a few days ago. Wow, would love to have one. But, I would not be able to retire in a couple of years if I add that payment to my cost of living.

I would love to have one. However, I just can't justify paying what the price of new cars are now. The prices have gone crazy the last couple years. I guess I'm just an old tight wad.

Since I know if I took care of it from birth with proper maintenance, it would likely outlive me.

Wouldn’t dream of one in year one though. Let all the crazies fight over the ones with over-sticker premiums.

But it’s not working yet. They’re just flat out ugly. I hope they grow on me because I’m glad they are being built.

I have a buddy who is supposed to be getting his in June and weekly he sends me a pic and I have to put on my friend face and pretend it’s beautiful and amazing.

I'm a little partial. But this is my favorite 4runner. Mine was black but you get the idea.
Get a nice view of the hidden "stuff" compartment. That rear seat container cut in the side pulled up. You could stash things in the frame underneath.

I’ve told the story a billion times but my FIL was the VP of marketing for Toyota NA in the late 70’s/early 80’s and pretty much conceptualized that truck and put together the case that convinced Japan to make them for us. He’s a great guy and world-class gearhead so it makes me even more partial to them.

It was meh on the road and brilliant off-road. I’m guessing this one might be a little more civilized on the road now.

Up until '09 they had a V8 in them, then got rid of that and in '10 made it bigger and heavier..with a V6.

2.4L turbo, 8-speed automatic. I'll go look when they ship, would prolly buy a 2 yr old '26 if my 2012 w/ almost 200K holds out. A lot of versions, I imagine I'd stick with Limited if similarly equiped, like with full time 4WD. Will also look at Land Cruiser, but gotta have that power roll down rear window.

They have 5 trim levels on the 4runner. They have the new Land Cruiser that has 1" more wheel base, and the exact same driveline. They also have the Lexus that has the same drivetrain.

They are selling the same vehicle about 8 different ways.

It never fell in my window of opportunity to actually buy one, but the concept of a solid off-roader that drove like a sports car on the pavement was pretty cool. I think Isuzu gave up on the idea too soon. It sure got rave reviews mechanically, and I think they could have gone somewhere with it but that type of vehicle wasn't what the public wanted at the time.

Especially to have come from Isuzu who wasn’t exactly rolling in the dough then.

The torque on demand system was pretty revolutionary as I recall. They were one of, if not the first to pull off an AWD system that could vary the power split as needed in that manner.

It was what we needed at the time, and I think it was in the shop once for a relatively minor issue. I always felt like Isuzu was an underrated badge. I know you loved your Trooper, and I knew a couple of folks who felt the same about their Troopers. A guy at work drove one to the office every day, I wanna say maybe like a 1997 model and he got rid of it sometime just after the quarantine was over for a 4Runner. He must have had a few hundred thousand on that one.

It wasn't flashy or fast, but something about the ride, the clutch, the gear shift and the steering together made it just feel right to drive. Like GTI's, 3 series bmw's, and a number of other cars. You might find a car that checks off more objectively positive criteria, but it just doesn't feel right.
