I have a former player in the Rays organization who shared with me that there have been some very recent rumblings about the Rays & Braves having some 'closed door' meetings about David Price again. There were plenty of articles back in the late fall, but now that the Braves are going to arbitration with Kimbrell, looks as if things may be heating up on the trade front. IDK if I could pull the trigger on this due to the rest of the package the Braves would have to include would be several significant prospects as well. Only 1 year of Price is currently guaranteed & even if Braves get a "deal" on Kimbrell's hearing...he's going to get a big payday next year that ATL might not be able to stomach and the Braves might be left empty handed in 2015. Not what you want as you are building a new stadium in a semi-controversial location.
I have no doubt there's an element of truth in most of your post. And the Braves have a history of either "unlucky" large dollar signings or just plain boneheaded deals---depending on how you look at it.
Wonder if Wren's son that he drafted out of Ga. Tech turns out any better than when Schuerholz drafted his own kid from Auburn...nice philosophy on talented picks!
BTW--JS,jr is a coach for the Danville Braves in Rookie League now.
