Todd McShay on Clemson's offense

Sep 5, 2016, 12:49 PM

Selling: Clemson's offensive struggles

The last thing I'm worried about is Clemson's offense after the Tigers scored just 19 points against Auburn. I'll give them a pass for playing on the road in an SEC venue to open the season. This unit finished 16th in the country last season, scoring 38.5 points per game. QB Deshaun Watson was a bit inconsistent and the timing seemed to be off at times. But this offense is absolutely stacked -- Watson; RB Wayne Gallman; WRs Mike Williams, Artavis Scott and Hunter Renfrow; TE Jordan Leggett and three returning O-line starters. Expect Clemson to get back on track soon.

For once I sooo agree with him! Stop worrying and complaining, if you think this offense is not going to be successful this season then you do not know football

Pretty much exactly how I feel

If we were going to struggle, I didn't mind it being on offense as much because I know we have so many good players on that side of the ball. What's great is that we played so well on defense.

The only caution I have about how the defense played is they did not really face a "real offense". When I say that I am not trying to knock them or their style of play, but obviously Clemson is still strong on the D line and a disruptive D line can wreck havoc with that style of play. Now looking forward in the next 3 weeks you still will not play a "real offense" as the next 2 weeks the talent difference is so big and then of course you face GT. So really to me we will not know how good the back 7 is until the Louisville game.

And just to make one more point, after Saturday I am very confident in the ability of this defense to stop GT. I had some worries about that this offseason after losing so much talent, but that front will totally disrupt the GT offense in the same fashion.
