How could anyone be anything other
Nov 12, 2017, 7:28 AM

Than a sunshine pumper at this point? We are the defending champions, two time defending ACC champions, have lost 3 games in three years, lost the best player in our prigram’s history and virtually all our playmakers on offense, few predicted we’d win the ACC or be in the playoff and yet here we are 9-1, division champions, and with a very good chance to beat South Carolina again, to win the ACC and to make the playoff. Oh and next year we bring in the best QB and best DL in the country.
How can anyone be upset with that? If so maybe you should go pull for Bama. Because they are the only school I might argue is on par with or better than the above.
We went through about 20 years of mediocrity and then Dabo builds us into a national power and yet people still complain about him and our coordinators. I’ve concluded that those people must just be miserable if they can’t enjoy this era.

entitled. Others are coots posing as Tigers. I said when we made it to the national championship game (I was there but have never watched it) two years ago that I never want us to get like Alabama fans. I wanted the journey to be fun and enjoyable. Never expected us to win every game and sure as heck wasn't going to nitpick every play and coaching decision throughout a sixty minute game. Why people that do the opposite remain fans is beyond me. You would think they could find a more enjoyable outlet instead of something that causes them so much anguish. Your post is spot on.

I think some fans just enjoy bitching more than winning

I sat next to some people yesterday who bitched and whined after ever play that didn’t go for a TD, and even booed Bryant. They never once cheered. They even looked pissed when we put the nail in the coffin. I don’t understand it.
On a side note, I thought the atmosphere was lacking when we ran down the hill. Then I noticed hardly anyone around was cheering. Instead they were recording it or taking pics. I’m afraid we’re becoming a spoiled, entitled fan base.

of this program - what a special time we are living rigt now. They don't deserve to be associated with Clemson. We just beat Florida State and won the ACC Atlantic title. Yet people are actually unhappy.
Too bad the Clemson gear the haters proudly wear every day (as the b*tch and moan about them) can't magically morph into Tennessee orange. Or garnet. That's the world they deserve.

I am not unhappy, or even concerned about our record, or the fact we are the Atlantic Division Champs. I am concerned, however, about our offensive production, or maybe lack of.We have allowed too many teams to hang around late into the third quarter, and into the 4th. Miami, and Auburn both put up 40 points yesterday against the # 3 and # 1 team in the polls, and we couldn't put a 3-5 FSU team away until midway thru the 4th.I'm getting way too many gray hairs, and I'm 67. And as far as the best quarterback and DL in the country next year, this is"NOW", not next year. And those twenty years of mediocrity is in the "PAST".The only game that matters is the next, even if it is 'The Citadel'.

Miami was losing to Florida State until they scored a touchdown with 6 seconds left to win the game 24-20. Florida State even outgained Miami in the game.

This is a good post and the fans you’re pointing this towards are very few in number. The vast majority that you point this towards feel the exact same way.
However, big difference is that those die hard fans post perceived negative comments that our coaches all know anyway and have spoken about it too.
What most are posting you think is negative is fans that realize how much potential this team has and just question why certain things aren’t being tried.

they're already showing?
Serious question.
Do you honestly think this team has not lived up to it's perceived potential. Perhaps even exceeded it to this point?
Why would a team that lost virtually every skill player from a national championship offense be expected to do more than this team has done?
What's the basis for those expectations?

Let me add that those complaining about KB are probably the same ones that wanted to move him to wide receiver or safety before the season began. I do get a little frustrated by the play calling at times but I think the coordinators have done a great job covering up KB's weaknesses. People, we have lost 3 games in 3 years.

issues the team has. I know we are not perfect. But totally agree...anyone who is a Clemson fan and talks negatively about this program is not about "truth", "honesty", or "being realistic". The past few seasons, including this one, have been better than the majority of fan bases see in their lifetime. If someone can't appreciate that, they need a new hobby.

Nov 13, 2017, 11:02 AM

is nothing wrong with saying that the Bryant who played the first three games doesn't seem to be the same one now. We do have playmaking WR's at every wr position, and no we are not getting the ball downfield to them. We have better skilled positions and oline than anyone we play, and we are rocking along with so-so production. I don't know what the reason for that is (its not all Bryant), but looking objectively at player ability and offensive production, the two don't seem to match. 400-ish ypg is not anemic, but it is 33rd in the country. We have way better players than that.
It is also fair to say that something we don't understand is going on at QB. They say Johnson is "not quite there yet", while Bryant is overthrowing everybody in sight. (Saturday was much better.) Dabo seems nervous about giving a QB some growing up room. If Johnson was somewhere else he would likely be a rising star with great stats. Would I do anything different? Probably not. But its a fair discussion.
But on one hand there are fans who think that just because we go through a year like this, its 'somebody's fault'. No, its not. There are reasons. I don't know what they all are (one would have to be a team member to know), but a program that has these accomplishments has the right staff in place. We are a great program and will continue to be.
On the other hand there are fans who think that an honest discussion about what we all plainly see means somebody is not a true fan. Its crazy, this tribal mentality we seem to want to live in.

Easy to make decisions about who should be playing since we never see practice. That's what decisions on playing is based on. Sometimes with these star high school players, the light just doesn't come on as quick. When I spent 4 years as a football manager, I saw several "can't miss" players who never sniffed the field on game day. We have done pretty good since we were predicted to finish 3rd in our division behind FSU and Louisville. See how that worked out.
Frank Howard used to say the greatest player on the team to the fans was the second-string Quarterback...think on that one.

Add that 'best player,' comment to another classic and you can see what Dabo is doing here. "Three things happen when you throw the ball and two of them ain't good."

program can know why we are missing on offense. You will also note I said I probably wouldn't have done anything different.
My point is that we can't even have the discussion anymore. Say we are great, and someone says we can't be great because we aren't scoring 50 ppg. Say we are struggling, and someone will say, "Shut up and trust the coaches", though one might not be suggesting anything less.
Yes, I think our qb is missing reads, and then he is missing open receivers. And he is running more times per game than Travis Etienne, sometimes nearly as much as him and Feaster combined. Is the latter the right response to the former? What, we can't even discuss that anymore?

I don't think there is a problem in having an honest discussion about things the team can improve on or whatever. I think the problem is that 9 out of 10 posters who do so, are the types to say KB sucks, or the coaches are idiots, or we aren't a top 4 team, or the coaches aren't earning their money, etc... and so the average person responding feels the poster is either a troll, an idiot who is overreacting, and/or a general need to defend the players, coaches, and program. Then when the 1 out of 10 poster comes over to have an honest and mature discussion on the topic it becomes too easy to lump them in with all the other idiots.

I agree with everything you've said except for the 20 years of mediocrity, lets add a several more years to that and lets say it was 30 plus years of mediocrity before Dabo was given a chance to make a difference, and a huge difference he has made. It has been the difference of being a 6,7,or at best 8 wins a year, to bringing championships home to Clemson once Dabo got our FB program heading in the right direction the right way!!!
