Venables: I don't need to be a head coach to be happy
Brent Venables' name comes up whenever a new head coaching job opens up across the country, and Clemson's fourth-year defensive coordinator has fielded calls from plenty of Power 5 athletic directors gauging his interest in their openings. They can quit calling because he has everything he needs at Clemson. Full Story » |

I really like his passion in all things. I love that he values quality of life for his entire family not just him and his career. I think he loves Clemson and its home at least for the foreseeable future and that's good enough for me! Thanks for choosing Clemson, Coach Venables.

competitive drive in one's personal life. Usually the competitiveness on the field washes into the desire to compete on up the ladder. The ability of Venables to have a pragmatic and logical focus on what he has now, and not let his drive consume him is admirable. Plus, if he clips coupons and live modestly, he can do well on a low seven figure salary.

A lot of our success is built on consistency...and that starts with a stable staff.
Dabo's greatest strength is bringing in the right guys who are great at what they do, but also genuinely like and respect each other. Everyone preaches family, these guys live and breath it.

There's Not alot to be dis-pleased with the defense...pretty steady for the most part. But... we do need an upgrade at LB--hopefully that's coming with Lamar (R. Smith).

on one side of the ball. I'm sure he and Dabo have an agreement about staying for a while. Think the prostituting comment had anything to do with Mark stoops?

...and double it (or give him something else if he'd prefer). I understand that money isn't everything, but sometimes it's things like that that make sure that a person understands just how appreciated they are.

good idea BUT doubling his 1.6 might be a little much..however 2.5 mil house on the lake might be just right..add more reasons for him to stay!

Coach Venables and Coach Sweeney are one of the reasons Clemson Football is where it is now. Powerful recruiting, a family driven atmosphere that expects the best on the field, but more importantly, academics and moral character. The whole Coaching Staff has made this happen. As a result, Clemson has been able to get the Top Recruits on Campus and our Student Athletes show what direction this program is heading. I would love to see this Staff to stay intact for a very long time and continue the success we are seeing now! GO TIGERS!!!

So, when Dabo takes over at Alabama one of these days we already have our next head coach... am I hearing that right? Lol. I don't know if Dabo would ever go to Bama or if Bama would call for the head coaching spot... but it's obvious that Dabo has a place in his heart for Alabama and I really couldn't fault a guy for taking the opportunity to coach his alma mater. IF he were to ever take that job it sounds like BV would be ready to take the reins.

Agreed. What would Dabo have to gain at Alabama? The...

...dynasty has already been built there and Dabo's dynasty in Clemson is just coming into focus nationally. I understand it's his alma mater, but still... I don't think the SEC holds the allure it once had.
It's not like Jim Harbaugh going back to his alma mater (Michigan) to resurrect the glory days. Alabama has pretty well peaked and there's no where to go but down. Hear that, State???

a special coach that has found as much reward in helping young men become men of character as coaching a championship team with men that love one another enough to fight for each other on the football field.
This team is All-In and has the best talent in college football despite recruiting ranking.
Brent being content can only make our recruiting stronger.
