There’s fast – and then there’s Jacoby Ford fast. Many college athletes enjoy being fast runners, but even they would not be able to keep up with Ford. If Ford challenges you to a foot race (even today), I highly suggest you decline.

Before Clemson:

According to Wikipedia:

In 2005, he attended preparatory school at the Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Virginia. There he recorded seven kick returns for touchdowns, 57 receptions for 1,254 yards and nine touchdowns, and 12 rushing attempts for 306 yards and three touchdowns. At the Fork Union Military Academy combine, he reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.126 seconds. Rivals.com ranked him the number-17 prep school player in the nation and called him the "fastest player on the East Coast". The head coach John Schuman called him "the fastest player ever at Fork Union", a school which has produced 87 NFL Draft picks and two Heisman Trophy winners.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacoby_Ford#cite_note-3

A 4.126 40-yard dash? That time might not be official – but it amazing none-the-less!

While at Clemson:

According to Sports-Reference.com, Jacoby Ford registered the following statistics at Clemson:

Jacoby Ford (2006-2009):
- 143 Receptions for 1,986 Yards (13.9 Average)
- 58 Carries for 494 Yards (8.5 Average)
- 49 Punt Returns for 479 Yards (9.8 Average)
- 47 Kick Returns for 1,124 Yards (23.9 Average)

And he scored 126 Points:

Jacoby Ford (2006-2009):
- 16 Receiving Touchdowns (96 Points)
- 2 Rushing Touchdowns (12 Points)
- 2 Punt Return Touchdowns (12 Points)
- 1 Kick Return Touchdown (6 Points)
Total: 21 Touchdowns (126 Points)

Jacoby Ford also shined on the Clemson track team. According to Wikipedia:

During 2007, he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Indoor Freshman of the Year. In the 60-meter dash, he set an ACC record, and the national best for the year, at 6.52 seconds. Ford was also named the Southeast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and he was awarded National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) All-American, All-East Region, and All-ACC honors.

In February 2009, at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, Ford ran a 6.51-second 60-meter dash, which was one-hundredth of a second shy of the NCAA Championship meet record. In March, he won the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. During the track season, he was again named an NCAA All-American, All-East Region, and All-ACC athlete with a fastest time of 10.01.

After Clemson

Ford’s world-class speed easily wowed scouts at the NFL Combine. According to GoUpstate.com:

According to an NFL scout who, along with dozens of others, was keeping his own stopwatch on Ford, the 5-foot-8, 182-pound receiver clocked in at hand times ranging between 4.18 and 4.23 seconds. The official (electronic) combine record is 4.24, set in 2008 by Chris Johnson, now of the Tennessee Titans.

Ford's electronic time posted on NFL.com was 4.28.

According to Wikipedia, Jacoby Ford enjoyed the following professional career:

Oakland Raiders

On April 24, Ford was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 108th pick overall.[17] He had 6 receptions for 148 yards and also returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 7, 2010. This was his career-best receiving total. Ford was a pivotal weapon against the Chiefs recording 148 receiving yards, 47 yards of which came on a pass from Jason Campbell to set up Sebastian Janikowski for the 33-yard field goal to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 in overtime. For his spectacular play in Week 9 against Kansas City, Ford was voted as the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. Ford was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November 2010. He had a 94-yard touchdown on a kickoff return against the Kansas City Chiefs and a 101-yard return for a score against the Miami Dolphins, the latter the third longest in club history. On December 26, 2010, Ford returned the opening kickoff for 100 yards against the Indianapolis Colts, going end-to-end in 11 seconds. Ford also holds the Raiders record for the most kickoff returns for a touchdown in a season at 3. During the Week 6 game of the 2011 season, Ford set the Raiders franchise record for the most kickoffs returned for touchdowns in franchise history with 4, after his 101-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns. In the offseason of 2014 the Raiders decided to not offer Ford a new contract.

New York Jets

Ford was signed by the New York Jets on April 1, 2014. He was released on August 24.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans signed Ford to a futures contract on January 14, 2015. He signed a one-year, $660,000 contract but was waived as a part of the final cuts on September 5, 2015.

Edmonton Eskimos

On February 19, 2016, he was signed by the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. On June 19, 2016, Ford was released as a part of Edmonton's final roster cuts.

Montreal Alouettes

After recovering from an injured hamstring, he was signed to the Alouettes' practice roster on July 8, 2016.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Ford signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League for the 2017 season. He was released on April 25, 2018.

Love the fact that Jacoby Ford holds TWO Raiders records for kick returns for touchdowns.

Jacoby Ford has since returned to his Palm Beach County high school to coach the game he loves – and to mentor the next generation. In 2022, he was recognized by his local community for his contributions. According to BocaRatonBowl.com:

Although Ford is no longer playing, his passion for the game has led him to be a football coach at his alma matter, Cardinal Newman. This year his team went 11-1 with their only loss coming in the playoffs. His goal is to inspire the young men and help them be their best. Even though he is there to make an impact on the lives of his teenage players, Ford said they have had a greater impact on him than he could have imagined.

Former NFL wide receiver and Clemson University athlete Jacoby Ford was awarded this year’s Palm Beach County Legends Award Presented by the David A. Burke Foundation. Ford will be recognized on December 19 at the Annual RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl luncheon.

In 2022, Jacoby Ford was also voted into the Clemson Athletics Hall of Fame.

North Carolina Highway 126 is a 23.1 mile state highway that runs from the west end at US 70 in Nebo to the east end at NC 81 in Morganton, looping around Lake James and Lake James State Park in the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina..

Lake James State Park near Nebo, North Carolina, is a 3,743 acre state park on 6,510 acre Lake James. The park was opened in 1987 and has over half a million visitors annually. The park obtained almost 3,000 of its acreage from Duke Energy in 2005 and the state had to buy 129 more acres of shoreline in 2016. The park is within 30 miles of 6 other state parks including Chimney Rock, Grandfather Mountain, and Mount Mitchell. The park has the usual camping (at Catawba River and Paddy's Creek accesses), biking (14 mile trail at Paddy's Creek only), hiking (22 mile trail at Paddy's Creek, 4.5 mile trail at Catawba River), picnicking, swimming (at Paddy's Creek only), fishing, boating, paddling, etc.
