Rumblings that Beasley may declare early.

Dec 14, 2013, 2:40 PM

I don't think it would be a bad decision necessarily just because sometimes you have to strike when the iron is hot. Even if he gets a 2nd round grade, I'm not convinced due would improve himself a whole lot by coming back.

I do believe he needs another year to improve his frame and his craft just because this was his first year playing every down as a de. But financially, it makes decent sense just to leave.

Beasley is another Ricky Sapp. Undersized speed rusher

who will get abused at the NFL level. He needs to stay and learn to be a balanced DE with more size.

R. Sapp is not in Beasley's league

Dec 14, 2013, 3:13 PM

Sapp was a "Johnny one move" speed rusher who lacked mass and strength. Beasley lacks mass, but he as a variety of pass rushing moves and is one of the strongest guys on the team. I have yet to find 1 scout that doesn't have him projected in the first round. That basically means he's a lock 1st round pick as long as there are no medical red flags. He'll probably add 10 lbs between the end of the season and the combine (practically all Clemson players do once they go to those predraft academies). With his production this year, he'd be a fool to stay while he's hot.

If he adds ten pounds that quick it will be bad weight and he won't test well. A lot of guys can go work with professional level strength coaches and add mass and strength easily. Beasley is about as massive as he is going to get and that might hurt him. He has so little fat and so much muscle on his body I don't know if he could ever get up to 250 pounds or so and that is around the threshold where an "undersized" guy becomes "average sized." Just my two sense, I could be very wrong.

Why shouldn't he? He got more sacks than Clowney so he will go before Clowney unless the Clemson haters from E$ECPN find a way to orchestrate the draft.
