Maybe it's starting to become news just now because he's suspended from the team. Will be interesting to see if he gets kicked off. He should be. Probably innocent mistake but it's one these days you just can't make. Hopefully he'll transfer portal. That'd make it easy for Dabo.

Maybe he had a weapon just in case one of the idiots started gunning down students on campus, and just wanted to try and protect himself, friends and other students. I've thought about that before of trained older students being armed without anybody knowing who the armed student was just for the reason of trying to get to a shooter before they kill a dozen students or have a young officer that could fit in like a student for the protection of students. Something needs to be done to give more people a better chance to live before the police force got on campus...

I'll reserve judgment on the young man. Maybe, just maybe, he had a firearm to protect himself in the event one of those weirdos comes to campus and begins to mow down innocent people. Maybe, just maybe, it was for protection only.
I guess we just need to see what the facts are before judgment begins.

Maybe it was unloaded in the trunk of his car and belonged to someone else. Why speculate instead of waiting on the story?

He was pulled over. There was an unloaded gun in the trunk that belonged to someone else. Nothing to see here innocent mistake.
