The only steaks I buy from Walmart are the tomahawks and they are solid quality

I haven't bought the tomahawk from Wal-Mart but got a couple at Sam's Club (Big Wal-Mart) and they were very good.

I don't buy meat from Walmart.

If that makes me a snob, color me a snob.

I only do sometimes because I have 4 kids that are going to eat me broke, especially the 2 boys… that said, I’ll buy theirs there and go to Kroger for the wife and I.

put me in the poor house via food.

Check out Fresh Markets' discounted meat schedule. Chicken one day, ground beef another and the prices are often better than what you find at the other big box stores. Chicken especially. I have a deep freeze and fill that beech up!

Don't be shorting your kids on their nutrition! Seriously,

cheap meat is fine for them...just don't be feeding them breakfast cereals and sugar loaded soft drinks!

I'm gonna jump on that snobby bandwagon.***

The only grocer I will buy steak from are Publix and Harris teeter…but I mostly just go to a local butcher. I won’t even get hamburger meat from Food Lion…I guess that 20/20 piece back in the 80’s made a lasting impression.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The butcher shop prices aren't bad.

2

Jun 18, 2023, 6:03 PM

I think if folks would price shop for quality they would be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, and ground beef in a tube is criminal.

Food Lion was a totally differently owned company back then. It's Ahold-Delhaize now. Ahold used to own Bi-Lo in its glory years. Been buying Food Lion meat for years.

I'll tell you though if you have a Lowe's Food near you that grocery store rocks. Love that place.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's ok.

Jun 18, 2023, 9:05 PM

It's where I shop. I wouldn't take it over Fresh Market.

Basically like Publix + a bar.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The steak at Lowe's is pretty pricey, but they do have a good deal

on their freshly cooked, ready to eat meats. I usually just eat one serving of meat for lunch, which usually costs me about 3 bucks, as long as I don't get the steak. I got eight chicken wings last week for just $2.65. Sometimes get a grilled pork chop or stir fried beef or chicken. Only complaint is the burger patties are usually overcooked.

Fresh Market's meats are usually good in my opinion. They have a great variety.

Grillled Ribeyes from Costco today

Costco has a pretty good meat department from my experience.

We have been without power for almost 24 hours due to strong storms that came through last night.
Cooking it before we lose it

I live in Lake City and our Walmart usually has a shelf of Prime ribyes and NY strips. I look for the ones that have the best marbling and have been pleasantly surprised. Better than Harris Teeter....
