Interesting article today in the Chicago Tribune about Notre Dame

Stating they should form their OWN conference and these are the schools they should target.
Northwestern; Boston College; Naval Academy;Wake Forest; UVA; and Brigham Young. The other possibilities to include would be Pittsburgh, UNC, Georgia Tech and The University of California at Berkley. Cited academics and exclude majors consisting of athletic marketing and administration.

is seriously writing articles about realignment and pretending that academics matter! It's all about the $$$. If Notre Dame was stupid enough to do that, it would be dumber than anything Swofford every did, and that's saying a lot!

Why doesn't the writer just suggest that they join the ACC - that's practically what that schedule looks like and it's not like we don't check the academics box. If we split the league into upper and lower divisions for football, we could add Navy to the lower division. It would still leave ND with 4 OOC opportunities from there for their Cal, Stanford, USC, Michigan (St) fix. It'd be a much tougher schedule for them though if they had to play our top programs that often, so I can see why they would take a pass.

The guy is clueless.
He really believes Northwestern would even consider leaving the B1G for the "Irish League" with Notre Dame as the sun with 7 vassal/servant schools in its orbit? ND is the head while the other schools make up the tail.
Notre Dame is indeed in an enviable position but the idea they could head an 8-team conference of nobodies is idiocy.

schools, and with the exception of BYU, is kind of geographically consistent.
OTOH, why would ND not just form a conference of other Catholic schools? That makes even more sense.

If we can't raise the revenue to keep the ACC, then I like it as this would be 6 of the 8 ACC teams necessary to terminate the GOR.
