Disney needs to go ahead and spin off ESPN

For a number of reasons…
But mainly:
Their corporate social initiatives are out of line with the majority of sports fans
They need to focus on driving a direct subscription model
They need to invest rather than cut costs

It'd help if ESecPN would lose its bias, too. I rarely watch or listen to it anymore.

LOL, Fact, the only time I ever watch ESECPN is when they are televising a Clemson game or an event. Nothing else they do or have coming on the TV can get me to watch any of the ESECPN TV channels, a Clemson game only!!!!

While they are at it maybe we can have Marvel and Star Wars back as well as both franchises have been utterly destroyed.

Words like "Needs" and "Should"

...don't register with corporations run by woke executives.
Anheuser Bush is in the process of committing corporate suicide. So is Disney.
It's bad for business, but good for their executives who want to curry favor with their financiers and continue to access capital.

Disney gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2023 was $28.739B, a 11.01% increase year-over-year. Disney annual gross profit for 2022 was $28.321B, a 27.07% increase from 2021. Disney annual gross profit for 2021 was $22.287B, a 3.62% increase from 2020.
Yep, sounds like corporate suicide to me.

‘20 and ‘21 were tough years for Disney during the heart of Covid. What’s the profit comparison vs. 2019? That’s a better measure of the trend. Based on the fact they brought Iger out of retirement and are cutting costs all over the corporation, there’s good indication they are very concerned about the profits moving forward.

”Their corporate social initiatives are out of line with the majority of sports fans.”
Then the majority of sports fans need to CHANGE.
Progress is more important than profits.

Maybe I’m just a bad little Marxist, but it’s just so, so gratifying to be “On The Right Side Of History”(tm). Totalitarian Communist collectives always make everyone’s lives better. Fact.

Can someone explain to me why ESPN...

would fire ~20 people but then blow $85 million on a guy like Pat McAfee?
That is crazy IMO. What does he bring to the table worth watching that is so valuable?

There was talk at one point they could spin off ABC. That would be something if it left one less place for ESPN to put some of its newly acquired SEC inventory.

The WOKE religion destroys everything it touches and ESECPN is no exception. I watch games on ESECPN, no commentaries, no pre-games, no post-games. They have become so politically biased, I cannot watch them. Just the games, people, it is supposed to be all about the games!!

If ESPN is spun off, will they have the deep pockets to pay billions for programming? It might drive college sports to start their own network just for college sports. It could be hosted by any or all the streaming services for a small carriage fee and the schools would get to keep the advertising revenue.

They been looking for someone to acquire ESPN since before they finalized the Fox acquisition. No one wants it.
