Dirty Feet

This story was passed along to me by a long time friend.

Rufus and his family lived in a rural area in the Florida Panhandle. Rufus and I were together at the Univ. of Florida before and after WW2. We also worked together for awhile. This story occurred in the early 1930's when Rufus and his cohorts were young boys. Rufus' family belonged to a denomination that practiced foot washing. Their home was one of the closest to the church they attended.

One summer a revival was being held at the church with services being held both in the morning and evening. Very few people had and automobile at that time, depending on a horse or mule pulling a wagon. For some families living more distant to the church, going to and from the church was not an option. Rufus' family invited many of these people to stay at their home. There were not enough beds for everyone so there were pallets all over the floor.

Their home was similar to many rural homes at that time, The bed rooms and parlor were at the front of the house separated from the kitchen and dining room by a breezeway. This was a safety measure should there be a fire. One night the guests placed their shoes on the breezeway. Rufus and several of his young friends decided to have some fun. They went to the old wash pot and gathered some ashes, They took the ashes at the breezeway and put soot in the shoes of the visitors. The next morning at the foot washing, many of the people had black feet. It didn't take long for he parents to determine who had done such a dastardly deep. When the service was over and everyone had returned to the house, ythe boys had to line up for a whipping.

Had a hot chick I was "dating" send me a provocative picture one night, several years ago. Very sexy pic, other than the grocery store feet that completely ruined the intent. Never "dated" her again.
