our offense. Thanks to unlimited dvr on my youtube tv i have been able to watch a lot of top games and top offenses. I am the first to admit i do not know how to design an offense for today’s college football programs but i AM able to know an elite offense when i see it. I have seen many elite offensive games this year and it is clear that our offensive program has not kept up with elite offenses in the game today. Where are our jet sweeps, toss sweeps, quick slants for first downs nearly every single time? Or quick outs to running backs or shots down the middle? Something is wrong. Is it poor recruiting, poor coaching, poor depth (recruiting again,) or is it a dumbed down offense for DJ who has proven to be a bust? Our oline recruiting has always been at the last teat on the udder and it has shown this year for sure. On the other side of the ball BV continues to recruit at a high level and develop successful depth in spite of injuries equaling those on our offense. If not for his acumen we would have lost several more games than we have. Unless some changes are made to our offensive program on the whole we are going to see more of the same next year. While I hope we hand the ##### their head on a platter i dont have much confidence that our ex-heisman candidate can step up to the pressure of this big game. So far he has not. I hope i am wrong and he makes a miraculous turnabout. Regardless i love my Tigers since 1966.

I think the Judge is being sarcastic
Your post is good, and he’s just bringing to light that there is a large number of folks on Tigernet that will act like you hate Clemson just because you offered your opinion on some of our struggles
It was a good post, and Clemson will have to adjust if they want to improve going forward
Go Tigers! ?????

of you who think our coaches do not know what they are doing must not have paid attention over the last six years of Clemson Football. The last six years have taken Clemson to the CFP from 2015 through the 2020 seasons. This 2021 season looks to the be first year we will be missing the playoff.
There is also a chance Alabama will not make it to the CFP this year. Shoot, you guys need to read Saban's rant this week to the Bama fans who seem to think they must make it the CFP every year, which sounds very much like some posters on this site.

Well, our QB has had problems keeping his composure. Some of

that is due to the large number of receivers out with injuries from week to week. This has created a situation where our QB and WRs have not had the game day continuity week to week. We just beat Wake with our freshmen WRs playing a huge role of the victory because we had most of our older receivers out with injuries.
Our OL does not have the experience of our last six OLs to make it easier for DJ . In general, we have had more injuries in our offensive unit than any of our last 6 years. There was an accounting of injured players last week that showed Clemson had 15 players who were held out for the Wake Forest game last Saturday. One ACC school had 9 players out this past week, but no school other than Clemson had 15 players out due to injury. The inability to keep our injured receivers on the field has created problems. It hurts the experience of our young QB working on game day with our young WRs. The starting WR units have not been consistent do to injuries, and we have seldom had Ross, Williams, Ngata, and Ladson, on the field from week to week due to injuries. The brighter side has been on defense. Our injuries had been lower on the defensive side of the ball. In general the defense has played well, but the inability of our offense to create better field position has left short fields for the defense to prevent our opponent from scoring..
The Wake game showed us how much the young freshman receivers and our freshman and sophomore backs have improved their play over the last 6 to 8 weeks.
Finally, there is nothing wrong with our coaches. There are several dozen AD's who would love to have our coaching staff. It saddens me to see such a knee jerk reaction from some on our fans. I know there are some who are faux fans posting ridiculous posts against our coaches. Our staff hasn't forgotten how to coach. It is much like the comments Saban made this week. Fans need to understand that you can't win every game every year. We can't expect to see Clemson and/or Alabama in a four team CFP every year. The new CFP will likely have 8 to 12 teams and more schools will get a chance to be a part of that playoff from year to year. I would expect more chances to have all major conference champions and selected other highly ranked teams including Clemson to be a part of the CFP larger field from year to year.

In spite of our shortcomings this season a loss to the Cawks would dwarf any other because they aren't nearly talented enough to beat us. You should understand this. Yes, you must be a troll.

We're just growing as a team with some youth and we have had a bunch of injuries. The only question in my mind for next year, once the team is healthy, is whether DJ is the man. Every year isn't going to be great.

You are right. But we were on a run, leading the country offensively minded. The rest of the country has caught up and this year passed us…some of that due to injuries. We aren’t the only one with huge flash cards and multiple signals being sent in.

No doubt something is missing with the Offense. Will it improve next year is what concerns me. The biggest problem is the interior of the offensive line. Next is the QB play followed by WR play. It just seems everything they do is so hard. It seems every pass is contested. The scheme never gets players open for easy catches. Dabo knows what is wrong and he will get it fixed.

I thought the offense has been boom or bust for the past 3 seasons

We win a lot of games the past 3 years bc our defense didn’t allow teams to score and etienne or Trevor made plays that were super human. Without that we are a 100 ranked offense. At least that is what played out and was what I was afraid of. We gotta get an offensive game planner like Venables is to the defense. Another thing to realize is Venables’ boys will be gone in a year or two which may be the end of his timeline at Clemson. Hope not but probably will try another venture.

One thing does confuse me a bit. All year, everyone has picked on the oline as target #1. And talks about how young it is. We weren't that good last year but obviously better than this year in everyone's opinions. We essentially lost one left tackle to the draft in Carmen... So I'm guessing the one guy made a heck of a lot of difference.
Parks was Carmens back up... At least in the OSU bowl game. And by all accounts parks played a lot last year because Carmen was hurt.
The only other difference was Cade at center. There were thousands of posts last year how Cade was crap and trotter, his #2 should have been getting snaps. Everyone else was back.
So why did we (coaches) play musical chairs all off season with the oline. Why didn't we just do the natural progression and leave parks at lt, and trotter at center. Just seem to me that would have been the natural decision. What am I missing. The injuries were later in the season. The pre camp injuries were backups.

Oline recruiting has never been a priority. As i noted initially it gets the hind teat. That is obvious through the years. Development of potential has also been weak. We never have receivers running wide open like we used to. And if there is one the pass is underthrown, in the dirt, too high, or behind the receiver. When there is a good throw it is dropped half of the time. If that is not regression then people are forgetful of what we used to be.

Let’s see: you’re saying that we haven’t been explosive or creative on offense and that we’ve missed on some recruiting targets and failed to develop some players. Right?
Be succinct. You’re probably right but most would say that your inferences are an overreaction.
Here’s a question. IF a school has all allowable 85 scholies filled, how many of those need to be “elite” in order to be more than competitive? 35? 50? 75?
In the post-portal world, elites that don’t play, for whatever reason, are gonna walk. And there’s not sufficient “eliteness” in the portal to replace every one and so-called elites that transfer are probably not going to a stacked program. So 85 is not a reasonable answer.
Regardless of your answer, can you not imagine a scenario where the # of elites, the # of injuries, the available “speed”, the lack of experience, and the limits of scheme combine to result in a disappointing outcome?

Very, very interesting points worthy of consideration. Thanks. But look at the top teams this year.....a lot of the same names as the last few years. My point, which has been posted many, many times before mine, is that out offensive PROGRAM has regressed compared to other elite teams and compared to where/what we used to be, for whatever reason and there are many. But others have dealt with their issues too and remain at the top.
