Something we tend to overlook is that circa 2018, it was--rare isn't the right word--uncommon for us to face third down frequently. We averaged 6.6 yards per carry and 7.4 yards per play. First and ten turned into 2nd and short A LOT. Kind of nice to know you have two plays to get three or fewer yards and two guys in the backfield who will be drafted 1st and 33rd.
Checking the stats from '18 right now...
We ran 1,068 plays from scrimmage and accepted 674 penalties. We only faced third down 202 times, and went for it on fourth down 19 times.
So, #1 call plays or create holes where you pick up 7-8 yards on first down and #2 get the first down on second down Simple, right?
I really expect that the Matt Luke hire will reap more immediate dividends than the Garrett Riley hire.

674 penalties accepted sounds a tad high. Consider that not-accepted penalties were not included in that 674 number.
Yeah, 674 sounds a little bit on the high side.

The kid is saying that he wants to become 3d down and Stellato, well I believe the kid has the talent to become that guy on this team's march to the championship game 2024, he just has to prepare his mind and body to do it, then go out there and get it done. Go Tigers Go Stellato!!!

It's Wesco , Moore, Randall, and Williams
all of those guys were top 100 recruits (Randall was 103)
At some point the heart felt/feel good stories have to end. Will Taylor, Troy Stellato, SwinneyBoysU . Turn the page back to WRU please ...

Stellato was a consensus four-star wide receiver and ranked #135 overall by Rivals.

Yep Stellato is not a Will Taylor or Swinney boy who is physically inferior with no athletic ability to warrant being on a P5 field during meaningful plays. He can and will make plays.

Randall and Stellato both poked their heads out of the injury tent and started to show what they might be able to do.
IMO, both of these guys have the potential to exceed what we got out of Ngata and Beaux Collins. This isn’t some sort of backhanded criticism; Ngata was pretty good in 2021 and Collins was pretty good last year.
Of course, a full healthy season will be needed from Randall to really see what he can do. Ditto for Stellato.

close to healthy, he's been pretty productive. I like what he brings and think he could play an important role. I don't understand why all Clemson peeps would not be pulling for this guy.

As long as the offensive line protects, Klubnik doesn't always lock onto Brinny and any open receivers that can be spotted then everything will be alright. Given this then any receiver can be the 3rd down guy.

The most important part of being THE Third Down Receiver is Catching the Ball past the chains! Stellato proved he can catch, but he has to be on the field, healthy. I personally wish him the best!
Go Tigers!

Just concentrate on being healthy and staying on the field, then worry about 3rd down.
