I personally think they should go after Elijah Spence, kid is from dutchfork highschool same culture and program as will Taylor, Antonio Williams and Jarvis green…. Kid has had a stellar career at Charlotte I think Clemson should grab him and Dubose

I agree about DE experience and depth!
If the players we expect to depart leave; we will be lacking a lot of experience here. Greg Williams came in as an LB and converted to DE. He and Swint(would have been in heavy rotation) in next year's DE rotation.
Some of these comments in this thread affirm me; some people only make judgments on "perception"!
The fact is Dabo/the staff did hit the portal actively last year looking for a couple of OL.
They just didn't choose Clemson.
I see the staff going after DE if players update the staff on their intentions to either leave for the draft or hit the portal or retire from football and not take the Covid-year!
I like the suggestion of the kid from Charlotte! If there is a kid who made plays who played at the FCS level even; be good to give them a shot. **clearly not my call for the literal out there. . . just typing/thinking out loud that it would be nice to get if we lose those players**!

We’re going to have to leave that up to the coaches, I agree it’s important. Kendrick comes to mind though…he stayed in and out of Dabo’s “love shack”…apparently GA was able to rehab his attitude….or live with it.?♂️

go three years without a CFB playoff appearance and Dabo is catching some big time heat. We’re in the ACC with limited competition so the expectations are sky high. Hit the portal and add some talent Dabo !

We are struggling to win games even in the ACC. If we keep losing talent and giving other programs gross advantages because of our own stupidity, we won’t be making even a 12 team playoff.

What does it mean when stupid people speak of stupidity? There’s a reason why your Tiger pulse is so low, yet you call Dabo stupid. Wow, what a winner we have here.

Making the 12 team playoff won't mean that much if you lose in the first round before the top 4 even play a game.

that would be next years argument, since we have not played next year yet that is moot.
ACC self destructed down the stretch.. NC lost 3 in a row. NC State lost their starting QB. Wake finally ran out of magic about half way thru the season.
ACC is stuck in a media rights slump... the gift that will keep on giving.
It takes two... we need to want a kid and that kid needs to want to come to Clemson.

It’s not true that we’ve gone three years without making the playoff. My accounting skills indicate two years, 2021 and 2022.

I hope we at least look in the portal for DE, but we should have addressed this in recruiting before we got to this stage if we are hell-bent on not using the portal.

If we lose our seniors plus Murphy
Dec 11, 2022, 7:55 AM

We will have no one with any gameday experience.
We will have Denhoff RS FR and Williams RS JR plus two four-star freshmen backing them up.
This mess started with Bates.
But it's not fine.

Is Mascol returning? Is XT officially gone? Also, 5 star Wood can play DE obviously. I think we are fine. Then we have Denfoff, Patterson, and maybe even Lawson. I think we go with what we have. I don't think there will be some stud DE for us in the portal anyway. JMO

If Mascol and XT could come back, then I would say we are fine.
You usually want to redshirt that position imho and count on freshman to play significant snaps.

As far as DE, I really think Patterson is going to show up when he gets a chance!! He's been in the program, knows the system, and sat behind NFL caliber players in Murphy, XT, & KJ

Fair question!
Wish I knew. He's been good when healthy, but staying healthy is the thing.
He and Ngata are the poster people for the "trainers table" hurting performance. Both, are really good players who can't stay healthy.

As many say and think, Dabo can no longer be hell-bent on not going to the portal, and if he does, look for more seasons like the last two we've had. Having a good QB without play making receivers is no different than having a QB that can't hit receivers!!!

I disagree. Having a good QB with no playmakers is not as bad as having a terrible QB with playmakers. The reason being: QB is the only position other than Center that touches the ball on every single snap.

The DB put of VA is a take imo, but it's hard for me to see it happening. As for the DE thing, not sure there are any we can get who will come here. Stud players who transfer are rarely coming to provide depth, so unless it's a slam dunk improvement (See OL) promises will have to be made and NIL used imo. Just my .02 cents however.

I seriously doubt we take many if any in the transfer portal. Dabo has yet to realize the portal is pumping progams up because it is providing other teams experienced players, whereas, Dabo feels recruiting only High School kids is the solution. Its the 2008 philosophy he stands by not the current changes. We shall see! I hope he does reach out to some of these kids and we get a few, especially at WR/DE.

I like his philosophy. If you recruit well enough it works. Also, if you want to get players to believe in the process, you might not want to throw a transfer ahead of them.

You are clueless or oblivious, or brainwashed or all of the above. We are the only program not using the transfer portal. Programs that are better than us and that out recruit us are also using the portal!
You can’t keep losing as many players, as we lose every year and think the solution is bringing in high school kids and promoting walk-ons.
Experience matters. Being in a college weight room and on a better diet matters. You can’t replace guys that have already been in the program two and three and four years with kids out of high school.
You are also completely ignoring the fact that we no longer have a coaching staff with the ability to develop young players. Go read the article posted a few days ago. Almost no one on this coaching staff has coached anywhere outside of Clemson. This coaching staff is nothing but a bunch of Clemson players. Some of them had no coaching experience other than a few years in high school.
And the proof is on the field. We have not been seeing players improve and develop after their freshman year.
Dabo has completely surrounded himself with a bunch of yes men that are totally loyal and will not contradict him. Echo chambers and groupthink lead to failure! Look at biology. Science. This is inbreeding. That leads to epic failure! Bringing in people from the outside with fresh ideas, an objective viewpoint, as well as more experience is critical.
Our coaching staff looks exactly like our team. We keep losing experienced successful coaches and replacing them with a bunch a young inexperienced loyal former players. That is a recipe for disaster and we’re seeing it on the field!

My concern is we are missing on guys in recruiting and then scrambling late in the cycle for what is left which is usually so picked over that you are lucky to even find a 3*. The portal can help you fill a gap with an experienced and somewhat proven player and it is crazy not to selectively use it when it is available to you and everyone else.

I think WR is the biggest need. The guy from Charlotte looks pretty good. Once XT and Mascoll let their intentions be known (and maybe they already have to Dabo) we will understand the need at DE better. A big nasty OL wouldn’t be a bad thing if the right one is available. But there is really only one open OL position if everything goes as expected.

Agree. OL and RB would be my least worries. Especially if we get the rb commits we're hoping.
WR - 1 (maybe take 2 if scholly available) CB - 1 (definitely need experience) DE - (maybe 1) but could still use 1 either way
* surprised no one has mentioned an experienced LB. I know we look OK but just an injury away from zero depth and experience.

Does not look like Clemson had even offered any of these guys. Danny Pearman doing work like usual. These guys will make good additions to a team. Won't be Clemson. Maybe Dabo will bring back the puma from GT. That way he can say he uses the portal.

"Hunter Johnson called us to ask us for a grad assistant spot, but we gave him a graduate transfer spot on the team. See, we are extremely active in the portal!"

Agree that's all Pearman can do but If you think he's working more than 10-2 3 days a week you crazy. He's one of Dabo's homeboy. He would still be coaching tigh ends, badly I might add, if wasn't for the racial remarks he made a couple years ago. Dabo created this position for him. Pearman serves no purpose.

Unfortunately, we don’t use the “P” word. We’ll use Daniels left overs as walk ons for depth. There may be more friends and family in que as well. We see who is available, other teams make offers to these kids to better their programs.

Boy, i hope we go hard after some of these guys especially DE and WR. But, I'll have to see it to believe it. Not sure our coaching staff will truly ply the portal or just glance at it.

Clemson should not participate in transfer portal acquisitions. Anyone who didn't want to be a Tiger from the beginning does not deserve to be here. If it's true Clemson is a culture, and a family...those who reject it have made their beds.

Not everyone in the portal was originally offered by Clemson and had the opportunity to “reject” us from the beginning. Geez
