Wow! The more I hear from and about this guy the better I like him. Lots of people worried about his ability to recruit. Doesn’t sound like an issue at all to me. May end up being a strength if he comes across in person like he did in this article.

Like the idea that we will continue to build on a system that has worked very well rather than bringing in an outsider who likely would want to install a different system.

The fact that BV wanted him at OU says all I need to know---glad Dabo locked Goodwin down.
Conn, on the other hand.....the limited sample size of his body of work has me wondering whether this was the "best" hire we could make. We will see regardless. Dabo has certainly earned the right to die on this hill if he so chooses......external hires (CM, BV) are what brought the program to greatness. It would be ironic if internal hires brought the program back to mediocrity.

While I agree it's obvious that Goodwin must be capable or BV wouldn't have wanted him too. But I don't get the issue with Conn. Players like him, he's shown he's a good coach or he wouldn't have lasted this long, and it's been said that from watching him in practices that players listen, he gets respect, and he has the "it" that coaches need.

I'd be more worried about outside hires bringing mediocrity. Until this season, under Dabo and his staff, Clemson has been anything but mediocre.

I'm OK with the choice if that's what Dabo wanted to do, and it wouldn't make any difference if I hated the choice bc, I control nothing at Clemson. I just wish he would have left out the part about being loyal. Loyalty is something that men back in the day lived by when they didn't have much else. Loyalty that Venables claimed he had for Clemson, that was bought loyalty that was only good until the dollar signs was flashed at him by Oaklohomo, the same school that allowed him to be pushed out without an attempt to keep him there. Dabo, and Clemson gave him a great 10 years that made his name mean something, and he left without even a good bye to a fan base that actually loved him. BV's loyalty had a price on it, and loyalty like that isn't worth anymore than the people that make promises they don't intend on keeping. Brent Venables loyalty to Clemson was worth as much as using a strainer for a water bucket, it wouldn't hold water, nether did BV's words about I'm a loyal kind of guy!!!!

Come on man, BV was "loyal" for 10 yrs. He had numerous opportunities to leave but stayed "loyal" to Clemson during that time and even when he knew he was likely leaving he went and spoke to the commits we had and told them to stay committed to Clemson. If that's not loyality I don't know what is. Yes he didn't hold a presser to tell us that he was leaving but he used his OU presser to thank Clemson personally. He really doesn't owe us anything, we are fans, we owe him our gratitude for being here as long as he was. We all knew that we were just renting him for a while just like every other cord that is hired, the end goal is always to captain your own ship. BV got his opportunity to be a captain and he took it. We need to thank him for his time, loyalty and love for Clemson. Let's not be bitter like a coot.
