Bevelle twins to play at Clemson
Kaleb and Kelby Bevelle grew up with Alabama Crimson blood flowing through their veins, but after three consecutive summers spent in Dabo Swinney’s football camp, Clemson is where they wanted to play football. Full Story » |

You couldn't ask for a better man to give a speech. I grew up with Willis and remember the twins when they were little. Willis has a great story to tell about his life and how he persevered. Grew up an Alabama fan always saying that he was going to play at Bama. His Grandmother raised him and his cousins in a small 2Br house. People always told him that he could never make to Alabama. He didn't listen and continued to pursue his dream. Our high school coach was nearing retirement and did little to help his players to move on to the next level. Willis joined the Navy out of high school the same time as I did. He was still determined to play at Alabama and still people told him that there was no way he would play at Alabama after being out of football for four years. While in the Navy, he trained everyday to keep himself in football shape and when he got out he waked on and then earned a scholarship at Alabama. He always tells people that if he had listened to all of those who old him couldn't do it that he would have never met his wife, played football and graduated at the University of Alabama, had success in his career and most importantly his family. He does have a great respect for Dabo.

Yes, it's back scratching, but these two are going the walk on route, not taking a scholarship away. I don't see anything horribly wrong with that. Maybe they have to sit a year due to transferring and that's why they'll only have two years left to play. Just guessing tho, as I'm no expert on the rules as far as transferring from a smaller school like they were at.

They played one year at Southeastern. They will redshirt next year at Clemson. Since a player has five years to play four then they should have three years remaining. The story said they would only have two years remaining after the RS year so what am I missing?

I met these guy before the spring game and had a very pleasant conversation with them. They appear to be real down to earth guys with a plan for the future. They told me they want to play DE and be the Bevelle DE bookends as Clemson Tigers.

Ah how cute they want to be bookend defensive ends. I thought this program is taking the next step to NC. Did you look at who Southeastern U plays, Texas HS football would be more of a challenge. They had offers from South Fl Austin Peay and Sam Houston and they took Southeastern U, bull. This nonsense has to stop. I'm sure BV is thrilled

You did see they are walk-ons didn't you? No scholarships, just had a dream of being on Clemson's team, so what is your problem? They will start as scrimmage meat. Only way they see the field is either earn it by being good enough or in mop-up duty. BTW have you ever noticed how many players in the NFL are from small schools???

Yes I can read. I do realize there are many NFL players from small schools but Southeastern University is way down the bottom of the ladder and they were not even stars there. I would rather see us give a preferred walk-on to someone that was recruited by App State, Middle Tenn etc. so that potential true walk-ons would give us a chance rather than look at us and say there goes my potential scholarship to the coaches roommates kid cause we all know where this is going. Loyalty is different that nepotism.

I'd guess they'll end up on nepo schollies deserve it or not
Apr 15, 2015, 1:06 PM
|
|
As long as they perform at some reasonable level, I'd expect them to eventually (probably after the red-shirt year) end up with nepotism-influenced scholarships over more deserving kids. And I'd guess that Dabo has already told his former teammate something to that effect behind closed doors. Otherwise it seems unlikely that they'd forgo full-scholarships in order to walk-on.
The other possibility is that their dad believes that they're very underrated late-bloomers who have an excellent shot at earning playing-time-based scholarships for Clemson, and then playing in the NFL, so he's willing to risk paying 6 years of out-of-state tuition. (Or, like he says, he's just willing to spend the money in order for them to attend Clemson.)
I hope I'm wrong and they turn out to be 1st-round draft picks after winning 3 national titles. It'll be interesting to see what happens-- just like with the Davis kids.
