He takes a lot of hits on the board, but that was a very good play for him in not giving up.

Tanner starts the play within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage (and on the opposite side from the run), so Dobbins was NOT running into Tanner's position. He pursues to the ball like a madman, and runs down a guy that EVERYONE would have said is faster than Tanner.
I have NEVER downvoted anyone on here but you get my first for being outrageously contrarian and wrong to boot.

What you are missing is we are man over the top. There is no coverage or protection on deep man. Muse side of field has no man responsibility. It is pure zone and no adjustment to other side of field. Dobbins eventually get behind the safety position on that side of field which Muse Had responsibility for.

Let me make this simple for you...

...Tanner was lined up on right side of defense. Play went to left side of defense. Tanner ran him down from behind and made a heck of a play. Why is this difficult for you?

Are Buckeye fans giving this sort of grief to their guy?

I mean the guy who had a clean shot at TL and whiffed totally letting him go 67 yards to score.
He certainly missed his assignment with catastrophic results!
I guess they’re not busting on that guy because they’re too busy complaining about the officials.

If anyone ever suggests that Muse has been
Dec 31, 2019, 8:21 AM

anything but a great player for us, then they're clueless about what they're looking at. He's had very few moments where he flat out got in the wrong position. Venables wouldn't have him out there if he was a liability. He's been a stellar safety by and large. Wallace and every other safety we've had have been out of position or just didn't make a play on occasion.

He isn’t a stellar safety. They literally design defenses to protect Muse on pass defense. And when we played sports we would always tell people it was your responsibility to catch a player if you made a mistake....
Glad he made the play. But there is no reason for Muse and Smith to be in the same position with the same responsibility on the play.

Great play by Muse.
Dec 31, 2019, 8:44 AM

Muse has been one of the strongly beating hearts of the Clemson Defensive for a couple of years. Players recognize players. The Clemson team voted Tanner Muse one of the permanent team captains.
All you cheap seat guys who who keep bashing Muse are clueless. I'll bet you think it's BS when Dabo talks about the team loving each other. Some of you might know something about x's and o's but you don't know crap about football.
Thanks Tanner. 29-0. You've been a key in every one of those 29 straight wins. Loveya man. Loved the way you ran down that Buckeye speedster when he had a couple of yards head start and you had to dodge some traffic. Love it that you lead the team in interceptions this year. Not a bad record for a guy who can't play safety, huh?

You don't know what you are talking about. It's 3rd and two. The defense is committed to stopping the run. We are locked up man to man on the three wideouts and Simmons is locked up on the flex to play run or pass. Tanner has NO deep responsibility. His assignment in the gap between the guard and tackle on the back side and the cutback.
The Flex kicks Simmons out and the tackle reaches the DE just well enough to spring Dobbins. Skalski, who is playing the strongside backer position in this formation takes a misstep towards the interior and Dobbins is off and running. When he breaks the line of scrimmage, Tanner is just coming out of his gap and 15 yards away from the ball.
He then pursues like a madman and saves a touchdown. he even jumps over one of his own players to keep up the pursuit. If you want to call out anyone on this play it is Simmons and Skalski. Tanner keeps their mistakes from causing the team 7 points.
If you are determined to call out Muse you should at least pick a play where you can make it look like you know something about football. This play ain't it.

Agreed - if anyone makes a mistake it is Skalski assuming that the ball carrier is going to follow the lead blocker, which is certainly what does happen more often than not in this situation. That allows just enough room for Dobbins to squeeze through and be off to the races. It was a good play by OSU in that situation, sometimes you just need to tip your hat to the offense.

The other thing not mentioned is how well OSU executed this play. The o-line sets up some great blocks and Dobbins has phenomenal vision to run across the back of his line, hit the crease and then shoot through our secondary. So I agree that although Muse has occasionally boogered up a play here or there he makes way more plays than he misses, and the play being discussed on this thread is a good example of a great play that he makes.

Why do you assume that the safety, who is down low on run defense and not adjusting to man defense on opposite side of field and playing on top of LB is not out of position.
Love the effort... but you Muse lovers are not making a balanced approach to reviewing the fact he was out of position on the play.

You’re an anonymous poster on a message board with a <50% Tiger Pulse. Strong stuff, for sure...let’s see how it stacks up.
Tanner Muse was chosen by the best DC in college football to be a starting safety for his #1 ranked “passing yards allowed”, #1 “scoring defense” squad for nearly three years now. He’s all-ACC first team and AP All American third team. He leads the team in interceptions. He was voted team captain by his teammates.
Close one. Honestly, I’m at a loss. I mean, his coaches, teammates, sports writers all think he is excellent. Buuuut, you did create a user ID....
Uuuuuugh. Call it a tie?

That was an obscure but possibly game winning effort.
The play by Muse was similar in that respect.

Watching the game, I told my son that could end up being a huge play if we can hold them to a field goal.
Simply an incredible play by Tanner Muse. Reminded me of a Terry Kinard play from years ago where he laid out and caught a guy's foot to save a TD.

Been a fan of tanner muse since his freshman year. The two thing that I love that tanner muse has that most don’t is pure heart and speed. He’s gonna be a good one at the next level whether he plays olb, inside the box safety or gunner on special teams. He reminds a lot of bill bates who used to play with the cowboys back in the day.

Dobbins will have nightmares over getting absolutely run down and arm scooped by big ole, slow Tanner Muse. Not to mention the crow he will have to eat the rest of his life. All I heard coming into this game was how fast he is. And fast he is. Muse much!

Dec 31, 2019, 5:02 PM

...notably for getting burned by Jerry Jeudy in Bama's 2nd possession in the last NC.
He played lights out after that. He was solid against OSU.
I am a Nolan Turner fan, but Nolan had two busts that cost us points Saturday night.
Like Tanner stoning Tua on the 4th down play, Turner redeemed himself with the lady minute pick of Fields.
Tanner is likely to be a mud round NFL pick at outside LB, and running down Dobbins from behind won't hurt his draft status.

I wonder how many of y’all really just being nice and not bashing him like I’ve seen all year or the fans that sit around me because of my muse jersey. Yes I did coach him and attend many games through his family and my season tickets. Been a life long fan and enjoy seeing someone I know play for my team. Everyone makes mistakes and he has don’t get me wrong but people saying bad about him. He was a 3 star and look where he he came. If he wasn’t good he would f be playing. I still don’t know why he didn’t get moved to LB bc that’s what they are projecting him in the nfl. He did play wingback in triple option on hs team as well as safety. But did not see many passing teams playing.
