OBC troubled by players not playing who are cleared to play

Oct 11, 2015, 8:48 AM

Downward spiral continues for USC

Willie T. Smith III, wtsmith@greenvillenews.com

“I said we aren’t going to put him in if he doesn’t want to play. We had another player, Carlton Heard, who had a cut lip and he didn’t want to play this week either. So we’ve got some guys cleared to play who didn’t want to play. Sometimes that happens when you have teams that are struggling.”

Whether or not Wilds and Heard were able to play, Spurrier’s comments are troubling as they described a team possibly on the brink of throwing in the towel.

Clowney is a very talented football player who appears to like the money and accolades, but not the work it takes to really succeed in the world's greatest sport, football!

I don't know about that.

Spurrier threw Clowney under the bus when Clowney WAS hurt, when he WAS sick, etc.

The Ole Sack would've ridden Clowney like mule if he were allowed to.

Fortunately, after the last time it happened, it appeared an agent stepped in and informed the old man that Clowney would happily work out elsewhere and never appear in Williams Brice again if there wasn't a little more understanding, for the Sack was on TV the very next day declaring how lucky they were Clowney played for them at all.

You have to conclude that kids look at Spurrier, look at Clowney missing NFL playing time with college-related injuries that need surgery, etc., and the kids rightly look out for themselves.

And Spurrier throwing players under the bus for his failures***

The team is in a really bad place if that is happening

Oct 11, 2015, 10:07 AM

along with Blackshier's tweet... I can't imagine how bad it really is in the locker room if that is what is 'leaking' out. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better

Good post, ChemETiger97, and it really reflects on the OBC for not having complete control over his team. The OBC is a lot like Clowney in that it is all about them and not the team, school, or fans. A really sad example of leadership!

Imagine what will happen if Vanderbilt comes to Cola. and wins over USuck! Would OBC walk away as he has never lost FIVE SEC games in a season? I honestly believe Spurrier would resign in disgust with his players and blame them instead his staff and himself. Matters are really about to get interesting in Cootville, especially if fans don't show up for home games from now until Clemson vs. USCe.

Go Tigers!

No, you mean it is going to get better before it gets worse

The last comment says it all, "sometimes that happens when you have teams that are struggling." It's sad, but just because your team is struggling doesn't mean you should sit out cause you don't feel like playing. Come on man, your on scholarship, your getting a free education to PLAY football. Poor character young men.

Good post, MC92, and all we have to do is look at our team and program since the debacle in the Orange Bowl against West Virginia. Dabo took action to correct our problems and look at where we are today versus where the Gamechickens are. It is called LEADERSHIP and Dabo is the epitome of that word. Spurrier continues his arrogant, self serving, egotistical, approach to his job, team, and school, that is paying him handsomely to lead the team, but he is still the same old Spurrier. Absolutely disgusting!

Great quote toward article's end

The Vandy game is a potential win since the talent level of the Coots is on par with Vandy.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!
