In a move sure to cause criminals using guns to refrain from doing so, the NM Governor has decided the 2nd Amendment can simply be ignored.
Perhaps ignoring the First Amendment provision for the Freedom of Assembly is next, to put gangbangers in place.
It's so much easier to govern as a monarch.
Hopefully the disloyal subjects of NM will teach the Queen a lesson in Civics and recall her.
Interestingly, even some of the strongest gun control folks don't agree with this move for sane reasons.
Ted Lieu D-CA--"I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of NM violates the U.S. Constitution. No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a public health emergency exception to the U. S. Constitution."

I think as they grow more bold we will see more of this kind of over reach. I fear a pushback is coming and it will be ugly. Perhaps necessary but ugly. I hope I’m wrong.

Constitutional rights supersede states rights.

But to your point, no, today's conservatives do not also crave states rights. They crave whatever authority will enforce their agenda. For an example, see Rep. Chuck Edwards' (R) recent bill that would punish states with legalized marijuana.
Of course, the Left isn't any better. But at least they never claimed to be for federalism.

I may be wrong, but the states have the right to determine if the citizenry can carry firearms in public spaces. I don't see where she is depriving anyone of their Second Amendment rights.
California, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York all have state constitons that do not guarantee this as a right.

loved about COVID. Declare something a "state of emergency" as an excuse to rule by decree and to he.l.l with the rule of law, legislative processes and public debate. The whole COVID hysteria emboldened these azzhats and for far too long others in the State Governments went along with it. Good on the Albuquerque police Chief for refusing to enforce this stupid order from the Governor.
Also - the old "“If it saves one life, then it’s worth doing" is once again being used to excuse the tyrannical behavior of a politician. That trite phrase is a pure play to emotion instead of reasoned thought. The "if it saves one life" argument could be used to justify getting rid of cars, alcohol, and darn near every modern convenience in our society. The moment you hear anyone say "if it saves just one life" you know they are full of shid and have no real justification for whatever draconian idiocy they seek to impose on other law abiding citizens.

All I’ve heard is that if we want to avoid fascism and save democracy, we need to vote Democrat.

Have you ever voted for someone who called for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution? I'm guessing you have or you would.

Now imagine if DeSantis did something that was even close to this.
