Raleigh N&O had this quote about Dabo and Teasdall
Dec 9, 2015, 1:49 PM
|
|
"When Teasdale returned to the sideline, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney grabbed him by the collar and unleashed what may be the most ferocious, visceral, repeated, and near unending tirade I’ve witnessed in my six plus decades on this planet."
"Embarrassed players tried to look the other way – relieved it wasn’t them in the crosshairs. It didn’t seem like the first time they had seen their vaunted coach explode. The game proceeded for several minutes, apparently unbeknownst to Swinney, while he continued to vent his spleen. Vengeance, in ample doses, was administered. I won’t soon forget it. Teasdale never will."
oh sweet jesus. have these people EVER watched a game with saban? muscramp?

I played for Coach Ibrahim...

In 1985, we were playing Virginia in finals of the ACC Tournament. During a Virginia attack I lost my footing and fell to the turf. Eric Eichmann and Jamie Rootes (two great midfielders BTW), were right there and thwarted the short-lived attack without incident. Of course, play continued but I just happened to be standing on the same side of the field with the team bench. Ibrahim was able to LOUDLY shout obscenities at me for the remaining ten minutes in the half. Then he spent another five minutes of the break finishing his profanity-laced tirade. Ahhh the memories !!!!

That kind of outburst wasn't unusual for Ibrahim. He had very high expectations for his teams.
Heck...there was one time after we had just beaten some team by four or five goals and he spent thirty minutes afterwards chewing our a$$es out.

I also played for Coach Ibrahim for four years and remember him fondly. However, like most successful people, he was high strung and I had to duck several cigars after a not so great play. If you play sports for competitive coaches, accept the fact that they are human and get over it or go back to your TV games.

agree a "little" bit it was over the top for DaBO but punter..

Just about turned that tight & most important game in Clemson history (due to #1 ranking & NC run) up side down with his stupid decision to "go it alone" for possible extra yardage..
And I was as shocked as DaBO must have been when it was certain that crazy act would cost Clemson 6-7 points in an extremely close game..
And I could see the stress & emotion on DaBO's face..and knew what he was thinking..and probably would do..and he did..Twice!
Wasn't pretty but a rarity & a lesson for both the player..And Coach!
Nuff said.

Probably worth mentioning that war is a little different from college campus.
As an example, our soldiers stormed the beaches at Normandy under withering fire...and you complain because your cable bill is so high!?
See how that works. It's called a 'false equivalency"

BTW, counselor. Would you please quote the tirade you allegedly overheard during the 'confrontation" between Andy Teasdall and Dabo Swinney? How do you know exactly what words were spoken? What is your source(you are not a member of the media; you are a professor of law) and cannot plead the 5th(even though you prolly had about two 5ths before writing that article) protecting your 'source".
Facial expressions, repeated unheard verbal expressions, and hand gestures can be interpreted in many different ways. It appears to me that you are another "Baby Blue" that has to cry about something.
I have an idea. Why don't you write about the class perversion that has been going on at UNC-CH for over 20 years? That ought to keep you occupied for a while. Also, I would not be surprised if you have a five-step grading process for all the papers you review during each semester.
The "A" step is 10 feet wide and ten feet long with a 2' fence around it.
Steps "B" through "F" are 2' wide and 2" long and polished so no paper could possible stay on it.

"I write only to state my belief that such debasement has no place in college football. I may be wrong about that, of course. If I am, it at least ought be clear that football has no place in the university.
Gene Nichol is Boyd Tinsley Distinguished Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill."

just COULDN'T think of any other topic regarding college sports---college football specifically---there at the ivy covered halls of the home of "The Carolina Way". I suppose the decades-long systemic academic fraud there, unc's complete abandonment of anything resembling ethics as they scurried like cockroaches to cover up and misrepresent the rampant cheating, and Prof. Nichols and his co-worker's tacit approval of this despicable activity is really not a topic for a column in the face of an opposing coach screaming at one of his own players after a disastrous decision.
What a joke....as is any arrogant unc sh!thead who isn't standing up and screaming into the faces of every administrator and coach in chapelhole

Does this writer know 1 word Dabo said?
Dec 9, 2015, 2:23 PM
|
|
He certainly assumes it was all bad. I could read Dabo's lips at one point saying, "Just do your job." For all I know it could have sprinkled with a bunch of "I LOVE YOU" that he picked up from our center JG. Writer does not understand passion and excellence or doing research to find out what was said. My wife got a nasty look for dragging one of our children out of store one day. She looked the man squarely in the face and said, "You have not been with this child all day." Don't interpret what you see until you have the whole story.

Things we can surmise about the writer of this article:
Dec 9, 2015, 3:22 PM
|
|
1. His parents forced him to play sports. 2. He had a big Sister. 3. He has several participation trophies. 4. He took a beat down in gym class. 5. He was always the last to be picked for a team [and he was glad] 6. His favorite pajamas were Wonder Woman that his Aunt accidentally bought him for his birthday.

All are missing one point of Dabo's Rant. It was for all the other players that have busted their gut for this team to be where they are. Without the coach taking things in hand with the offending player, the team's reaction to the punter doing something so stupid and possibly costing them the goals of all the hard work they have gone through could have been disastrous for the coherence of the team.
I am sure Dabo had better words for the punter when he was able to do in without a million people watching. It's a teaching moment for the offending player and the whole team.
All good coaches handle such issues like this, on or off the field.

Honesty compels me to come clean on this topic. One of those tirades by Dabo was for me...I axed him to give AT a piece of my mind, too! I was fuming...especially after UNC took the lead.
So...to all...I apologize! But if he EVER pulls even remotely a similar stunt again, I'll....
