If we had a Caitlin Clark would you go see Clemson WBB?

I'm not a big basketball fan either way, but I'd go see a game or two just because she is/will be such a legendary player.
Would be interesting to know how much attendance would be impacted if we had a top-tier team and an elite player. I know the women's game is very different than the men's game - almost an acquired taste, kinda thing.

100% yes. My bucket list has always included a girl's basketball at an Iowa High School because of the quality of play and the huge crowds.

Caitlin is truly a generational talent. If we had someone like her, it would put our WBB program on a much different path--like DW4 and TL16 did for football.

I'd go if it was a road game in Charleston or closer

Definitely if it was at Georgia Southern.
Otherwise it's just too far away from B-Town for a sport in which I have minimal interest.

I don't think it's "Caitlin Clark". I think it's "winning".
If we had CC and were 12th in the ACC, attendance would stay down. If we had whomever, and were winning games and playing exciting ball, attendance would go up.

I would slightly disagree here. It's the way she plays. She can shoot the rock. She is not just a big body tossing in layups overpowering people which has been a big part of women's basketball. She's the female Steph Curry. The 3 ball is sexy. Especially when her range anything within halfcourt.

Oh I agree, she's fun to watch.
But if Iowa was 7-20, nobody would care. It has to be fun AND successful.

Clemson needs to set up weekends that showcase a bunch of sports.
I think it was 2019 (pre covid). The day of the spring football game, there was a spring soccer game vs Duke, the lady tennis team held a practice, and there was a baseball game against Louisville.
Make a Ladies sports day...Clemson basketball, softball, tennis, gymnastics and lacrosse are all going on right now. If they would schedule a game/match/meet on a Saturday or Sunday where we could travel and see all...maybe even throw in an intersquad or alumni ladies soccer game.
You don't have to twist my arm to make a trip to Clemson, but if it can be turned into an all day event...I'd be there.

I dont watch WBB but I saw the clip of the 3 she made to get the scoring record

and oh…my…goodness.
It wasn’t a 3…it was a 6. Halfway between the three point arc and the mid court line and she shot it without setting her feet and it went right in. And it looked effortless.
Can’t judge a player by one 10 second clip, I know, but that was beyond impressive.
But no, I wouldn’t go to Clemson (I live over two hours away) to see her. I’d turn the game on the tv occasionally though.

Hard to say if LJ would be packed. Different time, but I attended some games when Barbara Kennedy was playing and we had decent teams, but the fan support was disappointing.

If the WBB National Championship game was played on my front yard, I wouldn't open the door to see who was winning.
I worked for the Hornets when the WMBA started. The first season we all had to work a few Sting games. I've never been more bored in my life. Nothing about women's basketball is exciting to me.

Yes. I joined Peacock towatch that team. Whole team is great to watch not just Caitlin. Passing, inside play and outside shooting from others.
I would definitely go watch Dawn Staley coached team. She and Dabo know their sport and know how to coach these kids.
Winning basketball for women at Clemson? Well how is softball and gymnastics and LAX doing?

If even had a semi decent team. If we had a top 25 program and were hosting ranked matchups I think attendance would be pretty good.
It would take a while to catch on though since we had had a bad program for almost two decades now. It’s been to bad for so long it’s very removed from Clemson sports culture

At one point, we went to four straight acc tournament championship games. Won two and hosted at least one ncaa tournament.
The sport has grown since then, but they had awful crowds. I also think many Clemson fans are stubborn enough to not like women’s basketball just because it’s popular in Columbia.
Women’s sports in general are more popular now. Just look at softball, gymnastics, and lacrosse. They’ve all sold out their respective venues.
To me, softball is head and shoulders above any other lady sports. Clark is probably similar to valerie cable and we show up to see her.
Clark transcends sports or gender. She’s fun to watch, and I do not watch much women’s hoops. I wouldn’t bend over backwards but for sure id be interested.
