Here are some things I would not be okay with ...

North Korea/China/Russia ramping up to war. More school shootings. Continuing inflation and a crumbling economy. More killer viruses. Increased civil discord and violence.
Dabo choosing Todd Bates as DC doesn't make my list. As far as football goes, given Dabo's track record, I totally trust his judgement, certainly more than any any TNet experts, to make the right choice.

who must be really interested in that amount of money and prove they really want to come, including Bates too. May the one who is most qualified and really motivated be the one who is hired.

Yes... or Mike Reed. Im hoping he goes outside for offense.. we need some fresh blood there... we have become way too predictable to continue on with the same exact system. However Dabo does it though I will trust him. He has earned that.

If Dabo believes Todd can be equal or better than BV in terms of recruiting, player development, motivation, and national defensive rankings. Those are the true criteria.

I think it’s the easy way out.

Dabo has enough control to do whatever he wants. Most fans will support anything he does. So will the administration. On some level, he’s earned that based on all that he has accomplished here.
My concern is this: Dabo has been so successful that he has been able to surround himself with a lot of yes people. Over time, this can result in a lot of questionable ideas being validated when they shouldn’t be.
I like everything I’ve heard about Todd Bates. He seems to be a very good coach. Perhaps he’s ready to be our defensive coordinator. But if we want to return to elite status, I think Dabo should at least entertain outside candidates. Doing so is the main reason why we became elite in the first place, and now have two recent championships to show for it.

Bates was an outside candidate at some point.

Yes, but what is his experience as a defensive coordinator?

Don’t you think it would be prudent for Dabo to at least talk to some candidates who have already been defensive coordinators? This is a really important hire.

Going from the highest paid and best defensive coordinator in the nation to someone who never called a defense in his life seems kind of stupid no matter how good of a recruiter and line coach he is. We can get the best of the best why settle for this. This is a desperate move that smaller schools do.

If Todd Bates is ready to become DC at Clemson....wouldn't you think Brent Venables would recognize that he might be ready to potentially become DC at Oklahoma? Is Venables considering Bates for his staff at Oklahoma? If not....why should Dabo promote Bates to DC?

That is a great point. I would like to see us go outside for this hire. Let’s get the best with a resume to back it up.
