How to beat UGA......and run the table
Jun 4, 2014, 8:17 PM

I have been thinking about this for a while now and the team this fall will take on a different look than what we have seen the past few years.....I think.
No doubt we will have one of the premiere defenses in the country this fall, something that we have not had the luxury of for some time now. I think (and hope) that the defense will be the identity of the team. So - what does that mean?
Just about every GREAT (statistical) defensive team has one thing in common: a ball control offense. And more specifically - a run oriented offense. I think in order to maximize our defense this fall and to maximize our win/loss ratio, the offense is going to have to morph into a run-based, ball control offense.
We have all heard the pleas of Chad Morris suggesting a more physical run attack. We have all also witnessed the abandonment of that run attack at times, specifically in crucial/tight games. I have seen us run the ball enough to consider our offense balanced - mainly in blowouts after the game has been decided. What I have not seen is the ability to WIN a game on the ground.
But, this defense will afford us the luxury of running the ball, even when not successful at first. I am not saying abandon the pass game altogether, but lets be honest - the pass game will not be the strength of this offense anyways. Cole Stoudt and our green WRs become even more of a threat with a vaunted rush attack. Play action is deadly at any level of football.
I guess the pressing question is - will Chad Morris be patient enough to play this style of ball?

I agree with most of this.

I guess in my mind, I don't see a Bama style running attack. I see something more like Awbarn from last year. With that said, I think the WR's will still be a strength of ours. Peake, Humphries, and Williams are far from green and the talent behind them is undeniable. I personally expect to see more running, but I also expect to see a lot of sweeps and TE dumps. I have no question Chad can stay away from the Hail Mary long enough to see this work.
The bigger question is would Dabo slow Chad down if the D needs the rest? My guess is NO, but that's who we are.

IF we can get half of what Auburn did last year on the ground, we will be very hard to beat.
Short, ball control passing game with a sprinkling of deep PA passes versus the loaded box. Very dangerous.

We are set up with a QB that is very good in the short passing game, WRs that can make plays with the ball in their hands, a good stable of running backs. Awbarn had a dominant offensive line, how will ours hold up?

remark, "June Junes never saw a football that he thought shouldn't be thrown."
Football enthusiasts across the country have become enamored with the high-flying, pass-happy styles of many teams, especially when part of the HUNH offense. Problem is that style of offense demands a balance...a balance in the form of the rush.
I believe, therefore, you've hit the nail on the head: develop the rush attack and use our WR's for a certain, selective balance. Now, you ask if Coach Morris will have the patience.
That will depend on whether or not he is willing to play the game of Russian Roulette to the last bullet. And that, my Friend, requires nerves of steel. My words of encouragement to the Coach: "Steady as you go....Steady as you go...."

It's as simple as this: score 1 more point than the other team each game. Same strategy will work in baseball and basketball also. I will be expecting my call from D-Rad any time now...

a zebra does not change his stripes. chad morris is not going to change his entire offense from the hunh to a ball control slow the game down type. up tempo, force the pace is what he is and does. now he MAY and I will say this with caution, but he may use the run game MORE than in the past. most at Clemson will never understand why he has gone away from the run game when it was working so well especially against the coots in particular. but no the offense will be pretty much the same imo.
