DJU playing well ..

Commentators in last nights OSU game thought DJ is having much better year this year versus last year.
I disagree, I say DJ was mediocre last night and this year.
I don’t know why we keep hearing talk about how much better DJ is this year than last year.
He was 8-0 this time last year at Clemson. Yes, we saw some flaws in that undefeated eight game start.
Then HE got his a$$ kicked in South Bend.
Compare last years stats with this years stats. Completion percentage dropped a tiny bit and yards per attempt went up a tiny bit.
Bottom line is he’s not a lot different than last year. Mediocre and not as consistent as one would like.
Great second string college QB.
Great first string NFL punter. And that’s not an insult, that’s just where he will have the best career.

Something happened in DJ's mind in the UGA game. He was never the same after that.

Nothing happened in his mind. In the Georgia game, he didn't have Travis Etienne in the backfired, or Cordell Powell and Amari Rodgers at receiver. That's what happened.

Also, he was up against one of the best defenses in college football history.

Yep, I watched too, DJ is the same guy, he just has a better OL that’s he had here. Stil taking sacks, still throwing at guys feet…

DJ was definitely not THE problem last year, but I still maintain he isn't good enough to elevate an offense. Our coaching staff just insisted on trying to force him to do things he REALLY wasn't good at doing. If you look at his numbers this year, he's averaging almost 2 more yards per attempt with a slightly lower completion %. That means they're actually letting him throw the ball downfield instead of trying to get him to throw a bunch of timing/touch passes within 5 yards of the LoS. He's also on pace to have 50+ fewer rush attempts, so they're not forcing him to run the read option every 3rd play despite the fact that he's clearly terrible at it. The result is the #34 offense in yardage, the #17 scoring offense, and a 6-2 record in arguably the best conference in college football.
We've been running essentially the same offense since Chad Morris left, it's just that with each OC change, it's gotten more and more watered down and predictable. From 2014-2020, we had 2 all-world QBs and one serviceable running QB that covered up the deficiencies in our offensive strategy. Not to mention having Venables's defenses who would hold down the fort for an entire game if the offense was struggling. I'm not sure what's going on with Riley this year. I would have certainly argued that there was more overall talent at the skill positions on this team than there was on TCU's roster last year. I'm still not sure I would switch that opinion today. TCU's offensive line was MUCH better, and maybe that's the real difference. But I've also seen an astounding number of really dumb coaching decisions especially since they should know better than anybody that our offensive line isn't capable of just winning the LoS outright with any consistency.

Well it was his decision to leave once he got benched. Nobody made him immediately pack up and leave so regardless of how good or bad he plays he left of his own free will. It's not like we cut him or something so it's not our fault he played like garbage and his backup suddenly lit up the other team.
