Hate that say this, but just looked at Georgia’s

Aug 14, 2023, 4:02 PM

Schedule. Looks like they might coast their way into another national championship.

Aren’t exactly powerhouses are they? Unlike the SEC, we have more to lose scheduling these cupcakes.
This is the one place I don’t agree with Dabo acting like we do this to be nice to instate schools. The truth is that we do this to keep an extra home game box because anyone good would want home and home.
It is a philosophical blind spot…

But Clemson's first 4 also have Duke and FSU

who won 9 & 10 games respectively last year. There's also Notre Dame and UNC on the schedule that won 9 last year. UGA's entire schedule has no teams that won more than 8 games last year except Tennessee.

You really think UGA's schedule somehow becomes more challenging with Duke and UNC? Is that what this is reduced to?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You chose to question Duke and UNC instead of FSU and ND

You chose to include Duke and UNC as if they offer some kind of challenge to Clemson that UGA doesn't have this year. We'll see about FSU. I wouldn't sweat ND at all. Georgia's schedule isn't full of world beaters, but neither is Clemson's.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At least UGA's schedule has 6 teams with winning records

1

Aug 14, 2023, 5:14 PM

last year even if 2 of them are UT Martin and UAB.

So now you'll just change the narrative to something that was never discussed or even suggested.

You left out the part where UGA has scheduled two teams who beat Clemson last year.

When you back into the playoffs

Aug 14, 2023, 5:40 PM

just make sure the reversed turnover on downs are legit, the reversed targeting calls are legit, and Kirby gets his timeouts in before the play starts. In big games where 3 or 4 plays make the difference, it matters.

Aug 14, 2023, 5:57 PM

with that sched. What does ESecPN have to get excited about for the top ranked team? Safe to say Gameday probably won't have reason to come to Athens this year, especially if the coots lose to powerhouse UNC and that game is kicking off the Gameday tour. Maybe Ole Miss will have a good run.

Simply Put, Yes

Aug 14, 2023, 6:12 PM [ in reply to Re: But Clemson's first 4 also have Duke and FSU ]

If UGA replaced anyone on their schedule other than Tennessee or Ole #### with UNC, it would make their schedule stronger. If UGA replaced anyone on their schedule other than Tennessee, Ole ####, or South Carolina on their schedule with Duke, it would make their schedule stronger. Florida, Auburn, and Kentucky might be a push with Duke. There is ZERO question that Duke is better than the other 6 on your schedule.

FSU > Tennessee
Notre Dame > Ole Miss
UNC > USCar
USCAr > Florida
Duke slightly > Kentucky
Miami > Auburn
NC State > Missouri
Georgia Tech is Georgia Tech
Wake > Vanderbilt
Syracuse > UAB
FAU vs. Ball State - who knows and who cares
Charleston Southern vs. TN-Martin - who knows and who cares

Care to argue with any of the above? Maybe you want to say Florida is better than USCAr? But then we have UNC > Florida and USCar is USCar. Maybe you flip Auburn and Kentucky and want to argue that Auburn is better than Duke... but then you have Miami vs. Kentucky which is even more lopsided in favor of Miami. NC State (the 7th best team on our schedule) could probably give the 2nd best team on your schedule a good game. Certainly would give the 3rd and 4th best a good game and might be favored.

UGA's schedule is a cake walk this year. Probably the easiest schedule in all of the Power 5.
Anything less than 11-1 with that schedule would be embarrassing for you. That said - I wish you the best at embarrassing yourselves with that schedule and I'm also perfectly ok with you going 11-1, backing into the SEC Title Game because TN loses to Bama and someone else, and then getting blown out by the West Champion.

Stop with the schedule stuff. You guys made it to the playoffs year after year because you were two touchdowns better than everyone else in the ACC. It didn't diminish your championships. If you want to pretend the ACC is a better conference than the SEC, have at it.

Glad you're okay with us going 11-1. You need to get okay with us winning another national championship.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's be serious here. There will be two SEC teams on UGAs

Aug 14, 2023, 6:16 PM [ in reply to But Clemson's first 4 also have Duke and FSU ]

schedule (outside of Tenn) that will be at least as good as UNC and Duke. I don't know which it will be but a couple from the Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky, SCar group will be on that level.

both UGA and Clemson have their share of creampuffs. We have FSU and ND: which should be slightly tougher than UT and Ol' Miss but both schedules are pretty similar to me.

UGA did get lucky by avoiding Bama or LSU

If I’m not mistaken all schools schedule cream puffs, and not certain if these 2 schools were always on the schedule as one may be a filler.Really comes down to conference schedules. The SEC East needs UT and Fla to get back to where they once were. Kentucky, Vandy and SC are lost causes.

ACC is what it is and that is bad. Va Tech, Miami and even a GT should be way better than they are when looking back on them historically. NC State and a NC should be in the mix on occasion but they are not.
Pitt, Duke, BC, Louisville, Wake Forest and Virginia would be a great start to a basketball only conference and should not waste too much on their football programs. Actually it really does not appear they ever really have spent too much period in football.

Chas So and FAU pay the bills.

Aug 14, 2023, 5:20 PM [ in reply to Chas So and FAU ]

I would suspect that the net profit from those two games pays virtually 100% of the cost of all the "olympic sports" programs at Clemson.

You gotta get the money to pay for men's tennis and women's golf from somewhere.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's impossible to coast your way into a NC

1

Aug 14, 2023, 4:57 PM

...because you still have to win the CFP.

That's what I tell my SEC friends when they complain about the ACC. :)

UGA got lucky the last couple of seasons because the field was "down", but I don't think anyone will be coasting to a NC this year. NO way another TCU makes a title-game appearance this year either.

Even with a cake-regular season schedule they'd still have to win the SEC, and beat 2 CFP teams. Very unlikely; not to mention they have a new OC and QB.

Schedules are made years in advance and as Dabo says, you play when and where you are supposed to play but that schedule is pathetic.

Re: Hate that say this, but just looked at Georgia’s

Aug 14, 2023, 5:52 PM

They have the most stacked team, if not Bama. Every year for the next 5 to 10 years they will be a top 2 favorite to win it all, no matter their schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They still have the SECCG and the CFPs

Aug 14, 2023, 6:11 PM

They won't win without being pretty legit. I don't think anyone has fluked their way to a title in the CFP era.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They still have to beat two playoff teams.***
