Baseball Gurus?

Why not pitch your best guy on Friday instead of Sunday? In my simple mind, I pitch best guy on Friday, try to get momentum, pitch my 2nd best guy on Sat for a series win and then 3rd guy on Sun and wear out bullpen then?
Why do best guys pitch on Sundays often?
I dont understand baseball sometimes and I played for couple yrs. I liked combat sports better!

The thinking behind it, is that if you can get one win on Friday or Saturday, then you have your ace on Sunday to win the series. plus it probably shows confidence in your other starters that you trust them to go out and get a win. That strategy will probably change in the postseason when getting a win in the first game is super important. Yeah if you're a 1 seed playing a 4 seed you could roll the dice and hold off on pitching your ace, but of course that 4 seed is going to throw theirs, so Id throw mine as well.

I'm more of a "get the first win then make them beat you" kind of guy. Bass tournaments you need to weigh a big bag on the first day to give you hope for rest of tournament, plus they make a cut after 2 days so you need to be your best immediately. I know last day is guaranteed for wknd series but my feeling is knockout punches hurt moral and make following days easier.
But Im sure the coaches are smarter than me, well some are!

that makes sense for stuff like bass tourneys and golf where they have cuts, you got to come out swinging. in baseball there's always tomorrow unless its the postseason. and even then if you lose most of the time its double elimination.

You always want to win the first game because you never know when the 2 seed may get upset by the 3 seed. The good part about this season is we have an excellent 1-2 with Tristan Smith and Aidan Knaak

Some coaches don’t want to potentially “waste” or use their ace against the opponent’s ace. If the other team uses their best and he pitches great then there is a good chance you don’t win even with your best starting and that is hard to recover from in game one of the series.

This is the approach we took last season and I definitely understand it. Factor in that we don’t hit well against teams ace pitchers and it makes more sense.

Knaak is a true freshman with only 3 career starts so maybe hell work his way

To Friday before long. Once you get to tournament play you need to throw the guys who will keep you out of the losers bracket first; so, If he continues to pitch like this I can see him move up in the weekend rotation.

I definitely can see being aggressive in tournaments or regionals but why not on wknd series. It isnt just Clemson that does this. Maybe I am a gambler more than coaches and I dont gamble much?

Don't fix what ain't broken! Definitely, a freshman should not be starting against the other team's Ace, IMO.

I would imagine he was initially placed on Sundays to relieve some of the pressure because he was a Freshman and he’s stayed there because you don’t want to break his routine.
