SIGN STEALING SAGA

Clemson is now being dragged into the fray of sign stealing. In reality, it's Brent Venables who is being accused of sign stealing. Brent Venables is notorious for waiting until the opponent calls their play first and then quickly having his team line up and execute the defensive play. It used to work well until Ryan Day figured out how to throw Clemson's defense off balance. I don't believe that Coach Venable was waiting for the opponent's signal, but more so waiting for them to set in formation and then guessing whether or not the opponent would be running, passing, etc. Of course, LSU is the ones accusing Clemson of sign stealing. Also, BRO BIBLE is calling the 2019 LSU Tigers the best team in College History so, I don't take that too seriously. However, is sign stealing something worth looking at? Absolutely, because it detracts from the integrity of the game. For this reason, coaches will be required to get more creative with play calling. Quarterbacks will have to be developed more so that they can call audibles more often, and defenders will be required to execute at a higher level. These requirements won't just apply to Clemson, but to every team across the nation. However, it does not matter if the opponent knows your next play if you execute the way you're supposed to execute.
GO TIGERS!

Correct Chesty. OC's have become so obsessed with calling the 'Perfect play" in every situation that they tie themselves up in knots and the kids are so confused they walk around like zombies, looking toward the sidelines. Whatever happened to "Running the play perfectly" and make the defense stop it.

I say make a rule that teams have to huddle and a player has to bring the play in from the sidelines. The QB can audible if you go one smart enough.
Just like the old days.

built into the helmets.
The NCAA is going to trial that during bowl season this year.

Doesn't need more than a few data points to solve the simple cryptic messages used to send in the plays.

When coaching my 13yo travel baseball team, we'll swap our indicator and live signals during our tournaments. Sometimes mid-game. I will even occasionally call out the pattern - like "here we go, thirty-two gang, 32." That means my indicator will be the third sign, the live signal will be the 2nd to follow. No one ever imagines that I would actually call it out across the diamond, of course. And no app can follow this. Football is much more complex, but there must be ways to deliver signals in a manner that allows obfuscation. I place no blame on the "deciphering" teams - the signaling team must learn how to encrypt their codes!

All it takes are QBs having headsets fitted to their helmets like they do in the NFL, and this suddenly becomes a non-issue. But whether or not that will happen, who knows?

During a game if you notice a tendency, like the left guard angling his foot depending on the blocking scheme, or when DC Tom Moore noted Buck Bellew sailing the ball because he got Happy feet when pressured and playing a deep safety resulting in 5 interceptions, that's football. Even recognizing an audible or sign from the sideline, or seeing that a certain play or audible was called in a situation is one thing, but scouting a team and recording signs and signals, then passing them around to opponents should be severely dealt with. What if Michigan gave UofSC the signs for Tenn and Clemson. Vacate wins and all sideline coaches for the next game with each team affected. Oops, that might make the Coots better!

"I don't believe that Coach Venable was waiting for the opponent's signal, but more so waiting for them to set in formation and then guessing whether or not the opponent would be running, passing, etc." I agree with you 100%.
