I don’t see Clemson guaranteeing a portal player that kind of up-front promise over our current players. Therefore a team like GT, Gam-Koks, or Kentucky will get a portal guy over a Clemson more often than not. We may land the occasional “exception player” but most portal players will be about money or immediate playing time (with a up front guarantee). Like it or not.. This ain’t how Dabo rolls

Interesting observation.

I see a lot of former starters in the transfer portal including 1 on our team.

A smaller % are seeking NIL money, but the vast majority are leaving

for more playing time.

We had one truly significant player leave since the portals inception. That’s not evidence for your “starter” claim.

they want playing time, NIL cash, step up to a bigger program or running away from their own shortcomings. Only one of these is a possible fit for Clemson...

Players in the Portal that hope to start would likely go down a level with a few exceptions. The Portal is not the end all be all in football and it is much easier to identify a player who could help in basketball.

going after a QB in the portal. We already have a starter, and a guy ready to take over if the starter gets hurt or moves on. Like you said, most transfers expect to start, so that rules out a QB coming here, unless it's somebody content being 3rd or 4th string.
