One Toke over the line ... Sweet Sammy

Once the Auburn game starts, it will be all about the football. I have no doubt that Martavis, Peake and others can capably fill Sammy's shoes for the 1st game with weeks of summer practices to prepare. We should no kidding win this game.
The downer is ESPN will be featuring the Chick-Fil-A game and every broadcast leading up to the season for weeks will focus on Sammy's arrest for pot and pills use. On the bright side, if you subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity" school, then Clemson will be receiving a lot of publicity. Sammy is one of hundreds of millions of college kids who have smoked the evil weed for the past 50 years.
Kids make mistakes at 19 (and smoking and driving around was a stupid mistake), and Sammy's future will be bright. I have loved Clemson, Tiger sports and especially football since arriving from southeast Virginia in 1979 and enjoy T-Net discussions immensely. That said, some T-Net posters are incredibly fast to rip other schools' players and defend Tiger players no matter what the circumstances. This will be another one of these cases where introspection is obliterated.

It wasn't a mistake...

A mistake is wearing the wrong color socks with your dress slacks... or a transposition error in an addition problem. This was no mistake - it was a very stupid example of bad judgement and less-than-exemplary character on the part of a kid. That kid just happens to have extraordinary athletic skills and has celebrity status because of those skills. Does he deserve a chance to make this right? Of course he does. Should he get a pass because he's "young" and it was just a youthful mistake? No way. This is a serious issue. He was ARRESTED. There must be repercussions to this that will hit home with the boy.
I hope this is a turning point in Sammy's life, because the dope and the pills only detract from his potential in life, whether it be in athletics or anything else. And I hope the rest of the team learns a lesson here too.

don't be such a hardliner - I like "one toke over the line" is softer and more forgiving! Look who agreed with you - ##### - that shows your mistake right there!

that the same is true for Meat Summers, Carkeya, and countless others who stayed at The Whitney last year.
This goes beyond a Taters vs. Coots issue. Do we really give a shyatt about these kids or not? Or is all they're good for is scoring TD's and winning games? If the latter, then who cares what they do? Let 'em get in bar fights, vandalize cars, and beat up their girlfriends. Who gives an eff, right?

laws regarding recreational drugs...
marijuana should be treated like alcohol, not like heroin or meth.

I agree with legalization, but until that happens, its still against the law and young people who care about their future should leave it the hell alone!!!

with undeniable points to be made for both sides. However, at this time there is no denying the current laws in force. And there's no excuse for disregarding them, regardless of your opinion on those laws.
Also, there's no denying that youth IS indeed a factor in this. We all have a lot to learn when we're young. Those learning experiences, good AND bad, shape our character. If I'd known what I know now when I was Sammy's age, there's a LOT of things I wouldn't have done. I sincerely hope that Sammy learns from this and becomes a stronger person for it. If the does, everything in his life gets better... including athletics.
