came down to a vote? Could it be that our success against them on the gridiron (at least our relative success, compared to others in their own conference) would work against us? And, does Snidely Whiplash still have Little Nell tied to the railroad tracks after all this time?

But they would vote against us joining the SEC because the ESPN wouldn't increase what they'd pay the SEC for media rights, so all the other teams in the SEC would lose money.
They likely aren't going to get as much more as they had anticipated with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas.

Would Alabama vote to keep us out of the SEC, if it ever came down to a vote? No - our victories over them aren’t as crushing to them as we think. It’s a blip to them. They are old money. We are not new money anymore ….like 2nd generation wealth. Bama is like 7th generation.
