I see several posters on here comment on how bad the NAVAL ACADEMY's football team was compared to N.D. You guys who believe that are comparing Oranges to Apples. To play football at the Academy, you actually have to be able to get into the Naval Academy. NAVY is an actual College Football team, N.D. and all Power 5 teams are mostly paid, professional, players. GO NAVY and Go Tigers.

… for the very reasons you pointed out.
However, I would say that most prop,e pointing out the obvious mismatch that was Navy vs Notre Dame are doing so to temper all the Sam Hartman is Super Man hype since yesterday.
Notre Dame rolled over a small, slow, one-dimensional team with no more actual talent than the Furmans and the Woffords of the world.
This does nothing to denigrate Navy or Furman or Wofford.
It simply paints a realistic picture of what happened in Dublin yesterday.

Navy has had very good teams. Even years where they been better than Notre Dame.
That is not usually the case, but it has happened. They are not really apples and oranges. They are 2 D-1 Football teams that play somewhat similar schedules. “SOMEWHAT”

Uncle Joe said that he was accepted to the Naval Academy out of High School but chose to stay home and be a football star at Delaware. He went on to finish three from the bottom of his law school class. That tells you how smart you have to be or is uncle Joe lying? Naaaaaaaah!

They are actually student athletes, not semi-professional, free agents.

Can't talk about Navy without bringing up 1984

when 3-5-1 Navy beat the #2 9-0 South Carolina Gamecocks 38-21. They had a great running back then, Napolean McCallum, but he had gotten hurt earlier that season, his senior year, so he was granted an extra year by the NCAA for 1985. So they beat the coots without their star running back.
Navy has had some other great athletes of course, like Roger Staubach and David Robinson.

I don't believe anyone is downgrading Navy as a program. I think most respect their tradition and their commitment to our Country. However, let's face it, the service academies are at a disadvantage. Yesterday, ND was a mismatch for Navy in every sense of the word. I would love to see Navy get 9 or 10 wins this season but more than likely they get 4-5 wins. However, I cheer them on and hope for the best.

ND beat Navy by 3 last year. If Hartman stayed at Wake and last years ND QB, didn’t transfer to Bama, I believe yesterday would’ve been a similar game.

I agree with that assessment, but Navy was not a good team last year nor will they be this year. Their option attack system causes trouble with some teams, but they are just not a good program overall the past three years. Last year they played over their heads in a rivalry game with ND. Hartman is good and he was good against Clemson last year. However, Clemson also started 2 true freshmen in that game. Is Notre Dame better with Hartman and a threat this year? Absolutely; however, they would get manhandled if they played Georgia, Alabama or Ohio State this year in my opinion. I do see Hartman having a great season and I do see ND winning 10 games. However, after just 1 game this year vs. Navy I am not ready to crown him as an elite QB just yet.
Just my opinion though. That is why I am a fan and not an expert.

It's really amazing they do as good as they do. Very disciplined and smart players who max out.

They are in a bad patch recently. Some of the weakest teams in the last couple of years.
Air Force always has solid teams. I doubt they would appreciate you making excuses for them.
