My paralysis by analysis on the O-line and Chad...
Aug 16, 2012, 5:21 PM
|
|
Last year about this time Chad was giving the O-line He!! when talking to the press. Recall how he questioned their toughness, etc. I have not heard any of that out of Chad this year, which makes me think Chad is happier with this O-line than he was with last years? Anyone else think about that? This makes me feel better about our O-line....until...
I then hear Swinney bragging on the young defensive tackles and how good they look, which makes me question if they are that good or if the O-line is that bad?!
Exciting time of year but sure can lead to nail biting. Anyone else ready for the Auburn game...for better or worse?

Sammy vs. Auburn more than others though. Sammy is amazing at getting separation on the short routes, which would help our young line and Tajh tremendously. I know we have other fast receivers, but I don't think they have the knack Sammy has to get open on the dink routes.

get his wheels turning than SW. I am excited to see what MB can do. Until someone steps up I still say we miss Sammy bad. Just looking at the limited scrimmage footage you just see such a difference in elusiveness when SW gets the ball. I could be wrong, but I don't see that with the other guys.

Martavis and Sammy are two completely different types of receivers who play different positions in the offense. It's hard to expect Martavis to take up the slack when he has a different role in the offense.
Here are the positions for each player
2 spot: Sammy, Humpheries, Hopper 3 spot: Jarone, Charone 9 spot: Nuke, Martavis
Charone was also cross-training at the 2 spot. So we need to be hoping the guy at that spot can step up.

well they may line up in different spots but you can still incorporate bryant into a role to take up the slack...you can still use him on quick slants...dead screens and tunnel screens

What makes you think Martavis can run a slant or screen better than quicker guys like Adam and Germone? I'm not saying he can't, but his forte is definitely stretching the field. The screens and dagger routes come from the 2 spot.

Fair enough. I fail to see why you would throw screens and slants to a guy who couldn't really get into the game last year because the only route he knew how to run was "go deep..." when you have proven YAC guys like Humpheries...and one of the quickest guys on the team in Hopper.
We shall we on Labor Day weekend.

As good as they could be 15 yards down the field 1on1 with someone 6 inches shorter than them?
I see ya point. The screen relies on lateral quickness and tall guys, in general, don't have as much lateral quickness as shorter, small guys.
SNAP THE BALL!!!

to be fair to MB, there are very few people who get their wheels going as quickly as sammy.
sammy cant be replaced but yall can find people to replace certain things that sammy does. imo, the biggest thing with sammy is he makes a defense play scared because you cant let him behind you and you have to give him some cushion so he doesnt blow aroind you. so if one guy can be the deep threat and another guy can be a threat to take a short pass the distance, then the defense had to play almost as if sammy is there. if yall force AU that type of soft coverage, nuk will kill them. the only thing that would stop yall at that point is if boyd just doesnt have time. so while you cant replace sammy with one person, maybe with two you can almost replace him. yall have plenty of receivers to find the right combination. if yall do lose it wont be because of wr play.

Hate to say this to a Coot, but good post overall.
My opinion is that we should run the ball 20+ times in the first half. Don't be cute. Wear the defense down early.
Even if we get down by a score or two...we have the firepower to comeback. I think the goal with a new OL should be to eliminate the early turnovers, let the defense play ball...and get your new linemen settled down and let Boyd get nested in.

I think thats where the pace comes into play....But we need to try to establish nuke erly also...but id venture to say they will start to dbl him which will allow ford to eat them up ...but as the coot said its all on tahj and the ol

Auburn has a good solid 2-3 deep on defense at almost every position. Wearing them down might not be the best choice.
I would lean more torwards nickel and dime them based on what they give you....

We have a former DT, and two first time starters, the best of which, is already injured. I'm trying to be positive... But in all honesty I'm scared crapless. Everything starts up front. Reguardless... Go Tigers!!!

All we can do is hope for the best. I wouldn't be worried at all if we had to "warm-up" games before Auburn. But coming out of the gates on the road with a very inexperienced line is worrisom. Our LG, RG, and RT will have less than 50 total snaps combined at the position when they take the field against a decent D-line.
I'll tell you, I'm ready to get that first drive over so we can breathe a little bit.
