Littlejohn Memories...

i know there have been some posts in recent days about littlejohn memories, but i thought i would share some of mine. Obviously, i havent been around long enough to see some of the "old timers" that you guys talk about, but i do have some fond memories that i thought i'd share and see if you guys remember some of this stuff...
I started coming to clemson basketball games as a kid in the mid 90's with my dad. I'd get home from school or baseball practice and my dad would take me. Dont get me wrong, i love clemson baseball and football but basketball has always held a special place in my heart. I think it has a lot do with the fact that growing up (and now in a lot of ways) we were always the underdog and there was something fun about showing up and hoping the tigers would 'shock the world'.
We'd always eat at Parcheesies (sp?) and i'd get the cheeseburger sub. Still to this day, thats the best sub i've ever eaten. Does anybody remember that place??
Then i remember ALWAYS wanting to make sure we got the the games in time for the pregame warmups and intro's. Do you guys remember when we used to come out to the Superman Theme song? The tiger chasing the bus and stuff is cool but there was something about listening to the band playing the superman song and the players coming out.
I loved watching us take down UNC in 2001 when they were #1 (and i also, very selfishly, am still mad that it had to come on the same day Dale Earnhardt died).
I remember Larry Shyatt and Matt Doherty getting into it in the heat of battle.
I remember Olu Babolola, Shawan Robinson, and Sharrod Ford all making huge plays in the final seconds of a senior night game against Virginia Tech to steal the victory. Still the craziest last 15 seconds of a game i've ever seen.
I remember "U down with OPP"
I remember the guy who wore the tree rollins jersey and had the dreadlocks who showed up to EVERY game rain or shine, exams or tests, win or lose, good or bad, no matter what. That guy was a true tiger fan!
I remember going to college gameday in littlejohn.
I remember beating Duke 74-47 a few years ago. Favorite part of that game was when coach K called timeout with 35 seconds left just so his team could stand and feel the atmosphere in littlejohn that night. he didnt even address his team during the timeout.
I remember the NIT run last year with packed out seats.
I remember taking my son to his first game 2 seasons ago at 4 months old and having one of those 'proud dad' moments. (he's 2 1/2 now and absolutely loves clemson basketball.. cried last night because he couldnt go with me)
Sure there were plenty of bad moments in littejohn. I've left mad, frustrated, confused, etc. BUT, i will miss it. I know most tiger fans may not feel the same as I do, but I was sad to shut it down last night. But, i look forward to making more memories in the new arena starting in 2016.
Go Tigers!

I loved reading about you LJ memories , thanks for sharing. As a student in the 80's I rarely missed a game and loved all of the concerts and programs. Bob Hope came and taped a TV special there, Bill Cosby was there(I believe that's right, my memory may be failing me) and various rock bands. It's strange, I was always in awe of Littlejohn because the idols of my childhood and youth that Jim Phillips brought to life on the Radio had played there....David Angel, Skip Wise, Tree Rollins, Stan Rome, Colon Abraham to name just a few. Also, all of the great teams that had played there, UNC, Duke, NC State, Viginia and yes even Frank McGuire and his coots. Coming from a small town and going in to LJ and seeing how big it was, how beautiful and orange everything was, it was awesome! Littlejohn means more to me than just a building, it was a special place and I will miss it!
