Let's be honest and not overlook the obvious...

It's a nice argument to say KB was 18-2 as a starter, but if our defense was not at the level they are and have been, KB would have been a slightly better than average QB. The program that Dabo has built is what makes a guy like KB look like a superstar. The same can be said of Bama and Hurts and UGA and Fromm right now.

I was just thinking about this earlier. I don't think it's fair to entirely dismiss what he did for us, as we certainly needed him to make plays in games, and he did a great job of protecting the ball most of the time. However, it's not as if he put the team on his back and carried us or anything. If our defense was even average last season we probably go 8-4.

I think it's a lot like the year Tim Tebow got to start in the NFL. It was a nice story, and he did his part, but I couldn't get over all the people giving him the credit for them getting into the playoffs, and saying he should've still been a starter in the NFL because he was a winner. They literally won a game that season where he only completed 2 passes in the game. They would win a game like 13-10 where he completed something like 5 passes, and led a drive late in the game to set up a winning 50 yard field goal and people gave him all the credit...because all that mattered was winning.

The problem with that though is for starters, look at what happened the only 2 times he faced a team for a 2nd time that season...it wasn't pretty at all. What was going to happen when he played for a team with an average or below average defense? What was going to happen when he played with a poor OL? Or what was going to happen the following year when there was more film on him?

You need a QB that can win you games when the defense has a poor game. You need a QB that can win you games when the run game is being stopped. You need a QB that can lead you back if you fall behind 14-17 points, and you need a QB that can drive your offense down the field for a touchdown with 1-2 minutes left.
