Leadership, Direction, Results. (Im tired)....

Jan 4, 2011, 4:33 PM

Frankly, I'm tired.

- I'm tired of "Pumpers" and "Dumpers" talk. There are optimist, pessimist, and realist. Dumpers are simply ignorant on most accounts and argue to hear themselves talk. Pumpers are enablers that are exactly what we have in control in the administration right now, and the reason we are sliding downhill fast. I consider myself a realist. I have been attending games for 30 years. I am a graduate. And quite frankly, we are a has-been. What is going on at CU right now is an embarrassment. I say this with loyalty and love for my alma matter.

- I'm tired of the leadership in the ACC. Swofford is a Tar Heel for crying out loud. Our conference champion lost to a 6-5 James Maidson at home this year, and was annihilated by Stanford last night (what does that say about us?). The ACC (Tobacco Road) still considers itself a basketball school, yet there is only one ranked team left out of 12 in today's AP top 25. I see Nick Saban commercials everyday on ESPN and wonder why they can afford to pay a defensive end coach $350,000 plus incentives. I don't think Swofford is saavy enough to push for this same exposure for the ACC schools.

- I'm tired of the leadership at Clemson.
**The President stood in front of EVERY class in the Spring of 2000 and talked of a Final Four, a BCS Bowl, and a top 20 ranking academically. Well, instead we have scholarships for women rowers, and the magazine that ranked the schools according to what we are trying to achieve academically is going out of circulation.
**The AD gave a three year extension to a coach he would fire halfway through the next season (who we are still paying), hired a position coach that had never been a coordinator (not even at a high school), and gave a nearly double-your-salary bonus to him for doing what?.....winning half a conference. Im starting to believe that Terry Don's national coaching search consisted of sitting on the couch, eating Cheetos, and listing to Mickey Plyer spew all the reasons we should hire Dabo. (Oh BTW - the said President above cannot afford to fire this said AD becuase of similar stupidity).

- I'm tired of knowing that our attempt to get back to playing Clemson Football will not come without a change in leadership. Period. I love Dabo, but we needed to clean the slate when Tommy was let go. What have we done since Danny has been gone? One ACC championship (with Danny's recruits) and we continued to beat South Carolina (what kept Tommy Bowden here long overdue). Now, we can't even beat the Gamecocks.

- I'm tired of losing coaches to other schools that are more serious about winning. First Burns. Now Rumph. You think Kevin Steele is kicking himself right now for turning down the $$$ at Tennessee? I don't blame these guys for leaving. Rumph is doubling his salary. Good for him.

- I'm tired of ALL the emphasis being put into recruiting. Yes you need players. But can you tell me how may top 10 classes TCU, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Boise St., Stanford, Utah, Wake Forest (yes even Wake has been to the BCS) have had the last 10 years? What Clemson needs is coaching. No we are not going to win every game every year. But going 6-7 with two wins over North Texas and PC is inexcuseable.

- I'm tired of being ingored. Ken Hatfield was 8-3 his last season at Clemson. While it was apparent we were heading in the wrong direction, he was fired because there was a serious decrease in attendance. I love going to games, but I don't know how else to make a statement other than by not giving to IPTAY, and not being in attendance. I realize that my 10 tickets can easily be replaced by someone else. However, I know that IPTAY will gladly take my money back should I reconsider years from now. Getting good seats will not be a problem. We have already seen the discouragement from the fanbase with the bowl attendance as well as the number of coots in Death Valley during our game. Its just a terrible business decision (since that is what it is now) to pay that much money for the ROI. I feel like Barney Fife buying the car from the sweet old lady, only to find out he had been swindled....and in this case the sweet old lady is Terry Don Phillips.

- I'm tired of the negativity that surrounds what should be a great university. Clemson needs leadership. Clemson needs direction. Clemson needs results. Clemson has a uniqueness that is being left in the past. We need to "get it fixed."
