Not sure if this is trying to stop someone from leaving or knotting UNC and NCSU together as a package deal.

If this stands, and the ACC approves, it will open the door for the same thing to happen in reverse. States can pass legislation that require state supported schools to get permission to JOIN OR REMAIN in an athletic conference. So, SC AND FL AND OTHERS could pass legislation requiring Clemson, FSU, MIAMI to seek approval to remain in ACC. That approval could then be denied. If the ACC accepts the fact that UNC AND NCSU HAVE TO GET APPROVAL TO LEAVE, they have to accept the reversal. The state could then tell the ACC to take the GOR and any other penalty and shove it.

Never forget the power of politics, as we saw during the ACC expansion when VT was invited. The Virginia Governor got involved, issued some ultimatums, and the UVA Chancellor then notified the ACC that VT had to be included...or else!

To me the current conference situation has resulted from an abject failure of the NCAA and its members to devise a comprehensive organizational strategy years ago once the likes of ESPN, etc. started throwing the megabucks around, I believed then that it should have been a north, south, east, west alignment with equal numbers of members and equal revenue sharing. You'd have playoffs, much like the NFL, leading to the title game.

The SEC or BIG will not want both schools and the BOT knows that, so they are stuck in the ACC where they belong.

UNC has looked down their nose at NCSU for decades and has used the Board of Chancellors as a weapon more than once.

Could be or maybe it's an attempt to protect the ACC. The politicians know the economic impact of a diminished ACC in the state where the conference is based and championship events held. Where were they when NCSU changed their vote opposite UNC to expand with Stancal?
