Precisely, why give them a shot if it could be avoided. And without any penalty in reality.
Three fouls to give would have easily burned up the time left on the clock.
They gave them an opportunity to win, and to their credit(NCSU’s), they took advantage.

Fouling to protect a lead should take place when shot clock is off and when the leading team is the better free throw shooting team. In this scenario I believe NC State took possession at the far end of the court with 6 seconds left. The real question is what are the percentages of a made three scrambling the court versus fouling and allowing the opposing team to potentially run a set a play. If I’m being honest I have no idea, and it would just be my gut that says letting them scramble down the court is probably a lower odds scenario. But I’m not about to die on that hill.

Free throw was missed with 5.3 seconds left I beleive. O ‘Connell dribbled the length of the floor unmolested and McNeely pretty much just watched him… with only the one foul. Bennett just watched him run by too without a word. He trusted his defense and O’Connell made them pay.
Bennett is a great coach! We’d be lucky to have him, but I believe he quit coaching for that short amount of time last night. And yeah, it burned them. Left it to chance.

Yeah...it is on him...that is the way it works...he just had built up credits/chips over years of success...like natty success...the same difference there has been for dabo over the past two years as opposed to tommy when he was hc...just like all of us husbands...build up credit and chips and then you an have a slip up or two...its just life in general iah!!!

Absolutely! The man cannot coach a lick. 5 Different National Coaching awards in his 15 years with the Hoos, one National Championship, somehow they always win whether they have players or not. The answer to your question is Yes. Everything is all his fault. The missed free throws, the horrible Pep Band, working his players to death at practice, playing shutdown defense for 15 years, not allowing players to miss practices for hangnails, bad colds and skin rashes........all his fault and a sure sign of poor coaching!
