Just my observation. Looked at the RB and OL port-o-lette availability. After viewing their "*" rating and their previous schools, which players do you think are better than what we currently have or would want? The portal has a couple of thousand candidates, but there are only a very few that can help most programs. Some may have playing time issues, personal issues or just did not pan out at their original school. Most wind up going to lesser type programs. What does that do to your locker room and what message are you sending the players that you recruited? You build from within in the players you believed enough to give a scholi to. Sure, you see the dozen or so who have made an immediate impact and the announcers and love to point them out but fail to mentions the thousands who have not been picked up and are not in school. The fix is not that easy, so be careful what you wish for.

That’s not really how it works for the Top 10 teams. Bama et al are actively recruiting 4 and 5 stars from other teams where the players are significant contributors and arrange for the transfer long before the player ever enters the portal. They pop in briefly before immediately signing with their next team.

FYI...an interesting read in SI (Feb 2,2021) re the Football Transfer Portal. Even had a quote from Dan Rad. Entry numbers are higher (over 1,500) and acceptance numbers are lower than I thought they would be. Lots of kids back on he street without diplomas. One would think that those numbers would be close to the same as schools who lose players to it would pick up players from it. I also think many of the 4 and 5* guys contact the schools they want to transfer to prior to entering the port. Leads me to think that the Port-O-Lette is not as "Rosie" a place to be as many people think. Just my random thoughts this Monday morning.

Coincidentally, I looked at that site last night. Other than the Michigan OL who I think only had one year of eligibility left, nothing looked interesting.
I learned a long time ago; just because something is on sale, it doesn’t mean we need it.
What portal running back will look at Pace, Shipley and Mafah and say “ I think I could go there and get some carries”. A kid in HS who will be at least a year behind them in eligibility- that’s who.
We could use a OL and another interior DL- hopefully those will be available at the end of the season in the portal and we can get one.

transfers ran back two kick offs for TD's for Bama .
Every game this week-end had transfer portal players starting and making plays.
Dabo can ignore changes in the game and he'll get passed over by coaches
changing with the times .

There were also guys from the portal throwing INTs, fumbling, missing tackles and missing assignments because they don't know the plays yet.
The same can be said for players who were recruited out of high school and stuck with their program.
All across the country there are players making plays and players making mistakes.
Cherry pick all you want to, but your statement is an obvious one.

You are overlooking a key aspect of the portal. Attrition. At this point Clemson needs bodies because of injuries. Even if it is for the scout team.

How does the portal help with attrition due to injuries today?
Can we pull someone from the portal today and have them at the school on scout team right away?
Serious question...is there any wait time?
Can they start the next semester? With all the changes to transfers, I lost track of the rules.

Yes, there is a "Date certain" in which a transfer can enroll and play for each season. Not sure what that date was for the 21/22 football season, but I do know that it has passed that date.

Its funny, even our highly rated transfer-portal leaving guys had better talent replacing them on the depth cart... or were dismissed from the team.

Supreme court pretty much denutted the NCAA. It seems a lot of teams do what they want now. Talk with players on other teams and such. It's the wild west now. I guess anything goes.
