Is Rittman leaning to much on Cagle?

I think she should've been pulled in the Tennessee game. Most pitches she'd ever thrown. It's not like we don't have other pitchers who can play. To me, this seems like a huge vote of no-confidence in the rest of the staff. I don't care how good she is - and she's very good - everyone gets fatigued, either mentally and/or physically.
And in yesterday's first game, that we lost, why yank Millie for Val? Millie was doing really well. I think she had one hit in the inning before she was pulled, but she's gotten out of worse.
On another note, was really happy with how Brooke bounced back yesterday in Game 1. Still had a lot of mental errors, but got her pitching together after that really bad first inning. Millie was incredible in relief until she was pulled.
And yesterday - Regan pitched a killer complete game. Really pleased with how well she did.
Last year, it seemed like Brooke was the clear #2 behind Cagle, but this year, I don't know that there's a clear #2. Spencer seems to have done pretty well this year as has Millie. Brooke has really struggled of late in the starting position.

Totally agree except he is not leaning on Cagle to much... he is leaning on her TOO much.
How many times over the years in sports have we seen athletes of great talents who win have tremendous years early in their careers and they never repeat it due to the inflated expectations producing added pressures.
She is also pressing at the plate and swinging at a lot of bad pitches. You can tell she knows that the team depends on her so much and she wants to perform for them and this just adds to the pressure. She looks stoic on the outside but her game reveals an intense competitor deep within. She probably needs to go fishing for a few days with Spud.

I hate it when that happens TO me TOO. That makes TWO of us. TOO little attention TO detail.

Sadly, there have been times this year when it seems like she IS the only one

we can rely on to throw strikes. And, be it due to fatigue or whatever reason, even she doesn't appear to be as sharp as in the past. The whole team seems to be "off" in some manner. They don't seem to have the same level of camaraderie as in past seasons, either. They just don't appear to be having fun, which was a hallmark of previous teams. They were good, and they ENJOYED what they were doing. This years team looks tight, and it is showing in their performance. Maybe they are putting added pressure on themselves, because they know it is the last ride of Cagle and several others who have been the backbone of the program, last chance to get to the WCWS. Hopefully we get it figured out soon.

Agree. He should not have pulled Millie. I think we would have won that game if he had left her in. Cagle did not do well in one other relief appearance. Can't remember which game. Plus she is not hitting that well.

Next year may get really ugly without her.
It will be interesting if Stanford is on the schedule next year. Rittman will be facing his former school.

We're going to have to really turn it up on recruiting and the transfer portal

to get some new blood in. I think he's done pretty well on that note.
But replacing Cagle is going to be tough. Pitching, fielding, hitting, and perhaps most importantly, leadership. Tough to replace someone like that.
Knowler looks like she can be a big hitter. Too bad she's out of the lineup due to some apparently extensive health matters. Depth. It's all about depth.

The articles I’ve read have been talking like he was not using her a lot early… maybe he was just trying to get her ready for this stretch of high end opponents. It seems to me that the main issue is that the girls are not driving in the RISP on a regular basis. Big homers and stuff, but not advancing runners or SAC flies to pick up the single runs too.

I think he is...but we don't have another pitcher that is anywhere close to

VC, so I'm not sure he has much choice. In the UT game, they'd seen VC multiple times and it wasn't surprising that they finally caught up to her. Millie, Brooke, and Regan have looked good at times but they have not pitched against the elite teams.
I think our biggest problem is at the plate. We are just not performing as a team...we'll have a couple of players getting hits but it doesn't extend through the lineup. We just can't seem to hit the ball with RISP. When we get beat it is usually because we've left too many on base, while the other team doesn't leave runs out there. Seems like our opponents always have someone step up and get the crucial hit.
Hopefully, we can flip the ######, but right now the WCWS and or even hosting a regional is not trending up.
Go Tigers!

Yep, hitting and the left side of the infield needs to step it up.
