I think Etienne might start paying us in dividends like Sammy & Nuk

Nuk was a 3* that developed into a 5*. Sammy was a 5* from day one. Other recruits took notice when they saw Sammy come to Clemson. Then the combination of Nuk & Sammy pretty much put us on the map as WRU. For years we have lost out on RBs & Georgia always has tons of RBs but now Etienne gets national attention. Recruits might start looking at Etienne and realize they can come to us and get just as much if not more exposure and development as a player.

Not sure what rankings you are looking at or what you remember, but Nuk was a 4 star top 150 prospect coming out of HS. There was some discussion on whether he would play on offense or defense. I'm pretty sure he was one of our top signees in that years class.

Yea I'm not sure why people try to paint Nuk as a guy who wasn't very talented and had to develop into a star.
When Ellington got hurt in the middle of the season in 2010, Nuk became the best player on our offense that season as a true freshman.
Nuk didn't get the same recognition as Sammy because in Nuk's freshman year the rest of the offense was terrible.

for being too big and hitting the 3 button instead of the 4 button. Regardless of my mistake he was not as explosive as Sammy. Sammy was the fastest player on the field. He got national attention from day 1. Nuk caught everything in his path but Sammy could have been the number 1 draft pick after his freshman year. I think Nuk got better every year which is in my opinion is called developing. Everyone else in entitled to their own opinion as well. The main point is we have a RB that is getting major national attention and recruits will notice that.

I'm not a Podiatrist, but i won't let that stop my fingers from fingering... I have a feeling that Sammy's running ability before his bones matured may be the reason he is not a regular go-to guy and has become a roustabout on the NFL carousel...

I love Sammy Watkins as much as the next Tiger fan but if he could have been the #1 pick after his freshman season then he would have been the #1 pick after his junior season.
He was much better as a junior than as a freshman.

You are correct in that player development is huge. Part of that developments is the individual’s desire to develop. Natural talent only gets you so far, Nuk always strive to be the best he could be. But even Dabo, who has been around hundreds of players, said that Sammy was (at the time) the most mature college ready freshman he’d ever coached.

Freshman year if he was draft eligible where would he go? He said number 1. That was his opinion and that’s where my statement came from. I think he could have gone pro then too. I also think he got tons more double teams after that year and I don’t think his foot has been 100% since he was at Clemson and that has caused him to be traded like he has. Unless you are a proven star QB in the nfl , they will not give anyone enough time to heal to full health. Even then I still wonder sometimes bc I wouldn’t let deshaun Watson take the hits he has been getting.

It is great to be in high cotton- Hi Cotton!! -. Agree with your assessment that we might become RBU too .... Don’t remember the Tigers getting interest by this many high star RB’s before....

What's special about ETN is
Jan 28, 2019, 7:06 PM
|
|
He shares the duties with other talented backs...none of whom complain...simply support. Talented prospects considering the Tigers will realize they can play 'Day 1'...isn't that right, Lyn-J? And allowed to play four games without burning a year helps even more. Look at Skalski...he played in title game!
