Could we be better at the QB position next year?

Cole being the better passer, Swag being the better runner... Combine the 2 talents and I dont think we have a drop off at QB. Not to mention the power run game with Dye/Gallman will help.

I'm not sure better as much as different because of the skill sets. Generally Cole isn't going to be though of as running for third and 2's. And if you put Chad in he wouldnt be thought of as as much of a passing threat.
Persoanlly I was never a big fan of Boyd picking up the tough yards anyway. I was amazed he didnt miss some games as a result of a late hit or something. I know he got dinged up a few times but not often

Not being a smart a$$ here, is Chad not a great passer?
From what I see, he has a lively arm with pretty good accuracy.

People wouldn't like that. Seems everyone on here can't stand some Johnny Football. During the bowl game he was getting ripped a a thug, punk, classless, and it was being said no one like that would ever stand a chance at Clemson. I stated then that Chad Kelly was the same player as Manziel and was ripped for it.

Boyd would always have some ### moments but he would also make a lot of big plays. He will be missed. Also, our WR group will be good but there is only one Sammy. You can't over-state the value he brought to the offense. He is clearly not replaceable.
I have to laugh at the comment on this thread that Chad = Manziel. That is a stretch beyond logical proportions.
I do think we will be fine at QB next year though. Either Cole or Chad should be able to effectively run the offense.

He sure did, but his running does look anemic to me. I think we will be fine at QB with either. Also, don't forget Nick Scheusler, who transferred over from Ole Miss, who looked very good in the last Spring Game after Kelly went down with his knee injury. I would not forget about Watson, either, though it will be hard for a true freshman to master this offense. He certainly has great skills and great credentials.

Though he ran a spread offense, ours will be somewhat different than he is used to. Also the speed of the game will be a good bit different. Not saying he can't get it done. I hope he can, but it will be a stretch for a freshman QB to come in and handle this offense we run. JMO

Manziel was a 3* recruit.
Kelly was a 4* recruit. Kelly's measurables are much better than Manziel. Kelly has great feet and is quick like Manziel. We'll see if it translates on the field but I won't be surprised if Kelly is a straight up baller.

to move our offense consistently, but he hasn't been up against the likes of UGA, FSU, USUC yet either. This spring is going to be very interesting as they both will be getting all the snaps-hope someone clearly emerges as our best option. And of course the oline will determine just how good they're going to be.

bus". Cole, Chad, and even Nick have been in "driving school" long enough to know what the expectations are and I know Watson will be a quick learner. A lot of Clemson folks are selling these QBs short for they are really good. Many teams inside the ACC and outside would take one of these QBs in a heart beat over what they have on roster. The real challenge in 2014, as it seems it always is, will be the defensive secondary. The only reason they looked better on paper in 2013 was the improvement in the front seven. I know Reed is really liked by his players but this group needs to really step up their game. 2014 should be a good year. It might be a memorable year.

If you think the secondary looked better on paper because of the play of the front 7, imagine how much better they will look this year, with the entire 2 deep on the DL back and the heart of our LB corps back. Not to mention, the guys filling in for the LB we lost are talented and experienced as well. The front 7 should be even better this year than it was last year, so I expect the secondary to take a leap forward as well.

Watching how smooth Watson is running an offense that is very similar to what we run, add in his athletic ability and it makes me feel like he will at minimum be very close to winning the job if not winning it outright. Kelly is really an unknown at this point other than his running ability and as mentioned before, Cole has looked very good but only played in games that we clearly had better personnel. I think that all three are very confident and could be great QB's but we just haven't seen them throw the football in games against teams with similar talent. Should be fun to watch develop!

I say that because if Chad doesn't start he'll probably transfer which will move DW up to the #2 spot.

Could we be? It's very possible. Cole comes from good bloodlines, has the prototypical size, a good arm, and showed this year in back up duty that he is not just a pocket passer. He knows the system, has plenty of experience, plenty of talent around him, and the tangibles to succeed. I loved Boyd, and there was one play or 2 a game where he would avoid some pressure, break a tackle, and turn a 8 yard loss into a postive gain, and I think that is what will be missed the most. However, I see Cole being a productive, smart, efficient passer making less mistakes and leading this team. Throw in Swag w some formations and what should be a deeper/better backfield, I think we will be just fine....

I think most of you guys are sleeping on Watson ... and when you wake up you will find he is our 2014 starter. His talent level, his early enrollment, and his 4 years of success running an almost identical offense ... and breaking every QB record in Georgia before his senior season even started ... are the reasons for my prediction. He is going to be the next Jamies Winston.
