I know everyone is excited about a Louisville rivalry

Don't be. They won't be consistently good. Charlie Strong created a recruiting pipeline in South Florida for U.L. and that is pretty much dried up now. I expect Miami to start keeping South Florida talent in South Florida now that their most recent scandal has pretty much blown over. Bobby P is not a great recruiter. Louisville's defense is all Charlie Strong, and Charlie isn't there anymore.

They will be similar to UNC

Except, honestly, maybe less talent overall. They will have a decent offense as long as Petrino is there, but it's hard to recruit at Louisville, and Petrino doesn't have the recruiting ties the Strong had. I expect them to be a halfway house for JuCo's and players on their "second chance".

Louisville will do fine in both round ball and football. THe ACC , if it has any sense...ok I know, stupid thought, should rework the divisions yesterday. It is the biggest reason that an ACC network will NEVER fly. It has to change.

Louisville was over 50% Juco, Prep schoolers and transfers

on thier roster when they enterd the ACC and dead last in APR among D-1 schools.
There is no way they can continue to recruit the way they do and stay in the ACC. There must be some special allowance for the makeup of their athletics right now.

They just got into the league this year! If the ACC didn't want a team with that makeup of players in the conference then they shouldn't have brought them in the conference. There is a reason the Big 10 scoffed at the idea of bringing Louisville in.
Short if coming up with new bylaws, Louisville will continue to recruit that way.

Laughable when you understand Big 10 took Maryland.

Maryland is in the AAU, which is why the Big 10 will take them. Big 10 only takes top research universities.

No of course they took Maryland for money. The TV market and the hope that they could spook UNC and Ga. tech to come too. Obviously didn't work.
However, it is not opinion, but fact that they would not consider anyone not in AAU.

I think your wrong. Louisville was very good under Bobby P. the first time and he will have them winning every year. Miami can't get all the talent in South Florida there is over a 100 D1 players in the 4 county area around Miami every year.
If Miami would bite the bullet and build a on campus stadium they would become a power for a very long time and have no problem keeping a coach.

Strong always signed 3 or 4 4* players

Petrino's first class - 0. He does have a 4* FL QB this year, but the defense studs Strong pulled won't be headed to Louisville. They have very little in state talent to work with. I just don't see it.

His record at Louisville 9-4, 11-1, 9-3, and 12-1 he has been a winner everywhere he has been and is a great coach whether you like him or not. He can recruit Ohio, Penn, NJ, VA, and South Florida and get all the talent he needs.

He was playing against who exactly?
Oct 16, 2014, 10:07 PM
|

Let me take a look.
His last season, 2006, they played 3 ranked teams in the regular season and went 2-1 2005 - 0 ranked teams on the schedule 2004 - 1 ranked team on the schedule - lost it 2003 - 1 ranked team on the schedule - lost it
He coached 4 years and 3 of those were in CUSA.

Was a good coach. With Louisville being in the ACC now and the unbelievable resources they have at Louisville he will win.
Also I think people can change and I would think he knows he's out of chances.

Petrino recruited Florida well his first time around, and does it matter if we fill a few positions with JUCO players if they are good students? Even if the big 3 of Florida takes top talent there will still be plenty of kids for UofL. Louisville has always made more with less and will continue to do so.
Also Louisville is a great city, tons of entertainment and lots of things to do for young people. The AD is loaded and with ACC money will just get richer. The sports facilities are state of the art, the campus is quickly growing, standards for the school are rising and money is being dumped into research and infrastructure. If anything joining the ACC is the catalyst the school has always wanted and just hasn't had the opportunity to access. UofL heard the same thing from WV, Pitt, and Cuse when they first joined the Big East and history will just repeat itself here. If anything the ACC is hoping that UofL isn't just another leech sucking money and life out of the conference. The conference wanted another strong school, and Louisville plans on doing everything it can to be that contributing member.
