I had a deal go sour a few weeks ago.

Oct 5, 2017, 7:55 PM

Ridgerunner, a member of a Benz forum I frequent, offered to sell me a couple of interior trim part to replace some that were damaged and worn out. We agreed on a driver's footwell-footrest and a door panel. He sent pigs and let me choose which parts I was interested in and I asked how much he wanted for the two I selected.

He ask me to make him an offer and I offered 60 bucks for both parts. He agreed and gave me directions to his house which is 70+ miles from where I live. After driving up there with the money and a good heart the guy reneiged on the deal. He said his wife had taken the pigs and he didn't want to sell those parts. I politely made it perfect clear that I believe him to be dishonest. Several times.

I pointed out that the pigs came to me through his email account and were returned to him with the offer. That's one good thing about email, the entire episode was documented. Never-the-less, I wouldn't deal with him on anything, ever.

Today I went to the LKQ in G'ville and bought the two parts I'd offered to pay $60 for, two other plastic parts which he didn't have, a glow box for the 5cyl diesel and all five injector lines for $38.xx. There is a lesson to be learned about patients, even for us old folks.

BTW, Lord willing, I'm going to put that interior trim back in the car starting Monday.

so he wasn't even asking a higher price? and he knew you

were coming, on the way from 70+ miles away? What a ####, with a capital D. Would have been crap, if he'd tried for more money once you arrived, but he wasn't even playing that card. One day, he'll get his reward. I've made a few distant deal selling or buying stuff, and I live in fear of the other party being wacko like this.

I wonder sometimes if dbags like that know

They are legally obligated to sell that to you once you have a verbal contract.

Majes me want to verbally assault them, especially given you were also out time and expense in getting there.

Being one who is familiar with the ways of car forums,

can I assume that you verbally pillaged him all over that forum to the point that his name is mud for future sales?

Probably is him but that isn't the forum I use.

Pelican parts is the sponsor, it is called Peachparts mercedes diesel forum. The handle threw me off a bit. I figured a 'ridgerunner,' would be a good old country boy. He came across that way online. Turns out he's from the mid western area. My guess is IN, OH, MI or IL.

I have not.

Oct 6, 2017, 10:23 AM [ in reply to Being one who is familiar with the ways of car forums, ]

You don't know the half of my disappointment. That footrest is a part I've tried to find for months. There are a few listed on Ebay but they are in Europe.

I learned many years ago that there is something sweeter than vengeance.

Not getting your footrest?

Oct 6, 2017, 10:26 AM

Let it go man. You're too old to hold a grudge.

Just buy the thing from Europe and move on.

I got one at LKQ yesterday.

It was included on the sale receipt with two other parts. The three parts cost $4.63 ea.

Euro parts have come a looooong way in the past 5 years.

Oct 6, 2017, 10:28 AM [ in reply to I have not. ]

I used to run away from them like crazy because they'd usually take your money and/or take 90 days to ship.

On my e28 BMW though, I had found a Czech guy who was awesome, had great deals on nice parts, and had stuff shipped to me reasonably within 7 days.

I've had good luck with Ebay.

Oct 6, 2017, 12:27 PM

I've run across a lot of good sellers and several great ones.

I gave the car to her for graduation.

Lol he gave you his address. What an idiot

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Evidently not.

Oct 6, 2017, 12:26 PM

I have not sought retribution, neither have I shared the address. He damaged himself.
