Y’all have a seriously warped perception about BVs defenses here at Clemson. Goodwin might of started a little shaky but he’s learned on the job quickly. Man is a mastermind at making adjustments after halftime as well. Look forward to see his continual growth in the DC position.

I'm going to eat a leftover porkchop with potatoes and gravy while thinking about how good Goodwin has done at Clemson, Tigers #8 overall defense and Oklahoma 79th.

Not exactly true. The other one was given to him by BV during a practice scrimmage.

Calling Wes that other name, as a jab at his weight, is low hanging fruit, regardless of origin of that other name. Some here have done this.
That is not to say, though, that everyone who has used that other name did so as a jab at his weight. That is my two cents. I am now finished speaking on this.

Wes has been the only Dabo replacement since losing OC and DC that has worked. Wes has indeed held up his side of the bargain. At least Dabo has corrected by hiring Riley and Luke. Dabo has learned a painful lesson of not elevating close relationships but hiring proven coaches. Jury still out on Grisham. Our complete offensive recruiting and analysis of personnel hit bottom for awhile and we are still digging out of that hole.

This is true. GRs resume better than year 1 stats. Time will tell.

Seems big boy defenses are effective against spread passing offenses. The last two National Championship games exposed as much. In eight quarters of the last two NC games, the alleged “better” passing offensive team has scored 20 total points.
Perhaps there’s some evolutionary combination of spread offense with a well designed rushing game that can be effective against strong highly talented defenses. Luke may bring that to the table.

Lots to unpack in your post. You seem to have forgotten, but covid and NIL are the two reasons our recruiting took a hit as there is no way to sell culture over a zoom call. Many of the guys we were able to sign in the past would not be options today based on our inability to compete with upfront NIL payments.
Dabo has had good success hiring off the radar coaches. CJ, Chad Morris, Eliott, Coon, Goodwin and Jeff Scott come to mind as good examples so your lesson learned comment is silly at best. There are plenty of examples of experienced coaches being fired for not performing.
Lastly, the jury is not still out on Grisham given he has seen two really good recruiting classes in a row post covid.

Well he fired Billy Napier and had to hire Chad Morris. Great hire. Fired Keven Steele and Hired BV. Great hire. Chad morris leaves and he hires in house Toney Elliot and primary play caller and Jeff Scott as CoOC. Great hires. Now is when we are getting things a little misconstrued. We were already seeing a decline from 2019. While we were still winning in 2020 you could see that we didn’t have the firepower at WR and OL was starting its downhill slide. We still had TL16 and Travis E. So that made up for our inefficiencies. Then 2021 happens. New QB, no legitimate threats at WR due to poor recruiting, OL was garbage.
Did Toney Elliot all the sudden forget how to call plays? Was it just our offense got stagnant? I still say we saw a drastic dip in talent. We are still seeing that. We didn’t see an improvement from streeter to GR because it’s a talent issue. Let’s hope we are starting to see an improvement in recruiting.

We scored from other teams 3 and outs as well as turnovers. But mostly it was 3 and outs.....plus our exotic blitz packages was uber sick. There was times I thought I would feel sorry for opposing quarterbacks.

not as much depth as BV.
That said Dabo knew what type of defenses are needed at the highest level and got the master of defense BV. Goodwin is a stud as well.
Our defensive line went from averaging 6ft 300 pounders to 6'3 to 6'7 265 to 350 pounders. That is something we lacked horribly was defensive tackles! True DTs are born.

YES, you are right. He has filled in admirably for a legendary defensive coordinator. He is making a name for himself and within the next couple of years will turn into a hot ticket item for other teams to go after. Has he been perfect, nope. Was Coach BV, nope.
Go Tigers, and go Wes Goodwin!!

I'll say this about Wes Goodwin. I was very critical year 1. I felt like we gave the keys to a Ferrari to a permit driver. He has quickly grown into the job and deserves much praise for 2023.

So when the defense forces turnovers it’s good coaching, but when the offense has turnovers it’s… ***checks notes*** bad luck and nothing you can do about it?

the two most common narratives on this board that i will never understand is that Wes Goodwin and will shipley suck, The reasoning usually revolves around a singular game at wake forrest a few years ago that we won anyway, and the shipley thing usually revolves around 2 specific games where he had multiple fumbles.
Always ignoring that Wes had some of the best units overall in 2 years with alot of injuries. And with Shipley always ignoring the guy had 33 td's in not even a full 3 seasons, let me guess you want someone with "lightning NFL speed" that only gives you 18 td's in 3 season.
